Hey all,

I'm reading Liber NULL & Psychonaut again and was wondering what "Liber MMM", "Liber Lux", "Liber Nox", etc. means. The dictionary describes "liber" as "a book of records (as of deeds or wills)". So what about the MMM, Lux, etc.?

I recommend taking a Latin class or at least buying a Latin dictionary. Latin clears up a great deal of word problems in this field lol. PM if you have a Latin issue if the curiosity is killing you while reading OTO books and such.

Liber MMM is what wannebe members of of the IOT must do before being allowed to enter. It's a period of 6 months unbroken recored work on things such as banishing, meditation etc. It basically prepares the person for entering the IOT.

LIBER MMM AND THE NOVICE


As a newcomer or Novice, you are required to do a work programme for a minimum of 6 months which includes:-

BANISHING RITUALS master a couple of these - e.g. Gnostic Pentagram & IAO

DREAMWORK keep a record of your dreams and suggest interpretations

METAMORPHOSIS self-transforming magic deliberately undertaken

ASANA sitting still, practice this on its own then within other work

PRANAYAMA breath control - practice this on its own and in asana, as part of motionless-no-thought exercise, 30mins min. daily

SIGILS, MANTRAS learn how to create and use these

DIVINATION develop and record divination skills - e.g. Tarot spreads etc

ANY SPELLS RITUALS OR TALISMANS DONE keep a record of how & why you did these

IMAGE CONCENTRATION visualisation of images in the mind's eye to gain trance

OBJECT CONCENTRATION staring at objects, e.g. wall, clouds, in order to gain trance

SOUND CONCENTRATION repetition of mantras or meaningless phrases to assist trance

All Liber MMM work is to be recorded in a diary with your own comments and self-assessment. You may choose to keep your MMM diary separate from your more personal records. A suggested diary layout would include:

e.g. 12th April '01ev 20mins Banishing Rite - GPBR Got good visualisation of the colours associated with the sounds this time. Very energising and centring but a bit spacey.

the telephone as an exercise. Found it hard to keep still - my nose was itching. Gave up after 20mins because someone knocked on door. Must practice this more.

It is suggested that the first time you do new work - e.g. a Banishing Rite - you write it up fully- thereafter shorter comments can be used e.g. 'Gnostic pentagram becoming more fluent now'.

Latin:
Liber - Book
Lux - Light (or day)
Nox - Darkness (or night)
MMM - Not 100% sure what the author meant by this. Only guess I have is roman numerals for "3000"
Null - from the Latin nullus - nothing
So
Liber Null - Book of Nothingness
Liber MMM - Book of 3000?
Liber Lux - Book of Light
Liber Nox - Book of Darkness
