I am entirely new to this concept, it seems to carry with it some possibly out-dated notions of the evolution of the brain, but it is in essence, a means by which to call up past reincarnations, and karma.

Without knowing what you've read already it's difficult to suggest further.
You're aquainted with A.O. Spare and Fr.U.D and asking for more/others,perhaps?...
And should we go for Occult/magickal resources only or do psychological/sociological interpretations also interest you?
I'm not that well read up on this concept, currently, but I know a little on it that may be helpful or not, depending on what you know already.
