Chicago Footworking Movement

Post by Deathquota »

The Chicago footworking movement emerged from Chicago house music around 10 to 20 years ago, generally under the name of Juke (emerging from ghetto house music). This style has really picked up around the world (Yes, especially Britain). I have found some fellow footworkers even outside of urban areas.
The footworking dance composes of self-expressive improvised dance moves, to higher BPM beats. Some moves are organized however.
This style has only gained relevance outside of the underground somewhat recently, getting play in various College Radio Stations, and urban stations.
It is also a notable influence on other genres. I find a diverse amount of people into this music. Footworking duels are not necessarily taken lightly.
The style is notably different from jitting (and techno dancing in general), and also hip-hop breakdancing.
There is often little more form and organization involved in both of those types of dance, rather than Chicago footwork, as well as footworking doesn't involve getting down on the ground.
Here's an example of the DJing style:
Here's some specific moves:

Please note that no one scene is really responsible for the emergence of serious improvised dancing. I am just casual.
