Disposing of haunted objects safely?

Post by Liberator »

Is burying haunted or possessed objects the best way to dispose of them? Or burning them? Take for example a very old doll which is haunted, my first thought would be to lock it away in a box and find some remote area then dig a hole and throw it in or bury them. Or put petrol on the said haunted/possessed object to burn inside a dug hole.

We've all heard stories of "haunted/possessed" dolls so I've thought why don't they just bury or burn them? How is it even possible for them to be possessed? In some cases like the infamous "Robert the doll" practicing occultists could somehow even give life to inanimate objects.

Burning them carries with it the possibility of releasing what's contained in the object.

Submerging in salt and burying is a time honored method.

And other thoughts, how exactly do inanimate objects somehow have a life of their own sometimes? How do some occultists do this?

We could bridge the gap between science and the occult if somebody could somehow pull it off with a robot or android in the future which the technology for are coming out soon, or to make them vessels for whatever beings can inhabit them. Results could be interesting.

Parapsychological explanation: Same thing as static energy. Movement temporary traps an electric shock in an inanimate object like a carpet.
Life is energy, give enough energy to an object and it gets "life"

Metaphysical explanation: The departed soul, now without a host/body finds it way into a new host/body.

ANYHOW.

Sealing or binding before burying is often the best. I'll give some examples.

1. Put the object in a paperbag, write a X on both sides. (x for "Do not want") Then bury it as far away from your house as possible.
Other protective symbols can be used.

2. Use white yarn to tie 9 knots around the object, then bury it. Alternatives with red yarn and 13 knots exists as well.

3. Put it in a box, Cover the inside with salt, Bury it.

4. Mirror box, put mirrors on all side inside a box, put object in box, bury.

5. Break the object, throw it in moving water.

6. Break the object, tie it up with yarn. Then use Rowan twigs to bind it. Put it in a brown paper bag, take a black marker and draw the protective rune Algiz on both sides of the bag. Shake salt inside the bag.
Bury it or dispose of it in a public trashcan. The further away the better.

When you get home, do a cleansing and protection ritual.

------------------------

Why you shouldn't burn it: Fire represent the element of passion, energy and action. Burning something might instill it with just does qualities. You are giving it freedom and power to move.

An object ties the energy to itself. As long as it is in the object, you know where it is, burning the object can let the thing loose.

Why bury: Earth is a very passive energy. It's also great for grounding. Things that are put in the ground tends to stay in the ground. Energy that is put into the earth cannot move about. Or at least have great trouble doing so.

Moving water: Trowing objects into water has been used by many different cultures for many different reasons. One is that water/mirrors are seen as a portal to the other world/worlds and therefore you can send back an object by throwing it there.
Water is also a calming element, an object that is put into water calms down.
If you can find a river that runs northward you can purify an object by submerging it for 3 days.

The important factor: Will

Just putting something away isn't enough, You need to really put it in the ground with your will as well. Bury your emotion and desires with it as well.
That is why a simple X can do just as well as a complicated protection symbol. As long as you draw it with a serious mind that you DO NOT want this thing back, it will hold the object.

This is why I like the moving water aspect, because if you keep it in a box, there is always the temptation of opening the box, but breaking it and throwing it away pretty much assures that the object is gone. It means that you have to be serious about removing it

There is also a Reiki technique for removing hauntings and residual energy from objects. Any reputable Reiki master should be able to do it for you, and then leaving it wrapped in a black cloth with sea salt or quartz crystals for several weeks should release anything left in it. Of course this is only if you want to keep the object.

Yes. You can of course use energy work. Even spells or other means, but most often the physical/practical way is recommended to beginners.

An object ties the energy to itself. As long as it is in the object, you know where it is, burning the object can let the thing loose.
Fire is also a purifying power when it is applied that way. When you burn a body infected with a wildly contagious disease like the plague, you do not feed the plague to the fire and free it to move elsewhere. You destroy the disease with the body.

Of course, with Magick, it depends on the intent of the person doing it as well as the object itself. Some objects are better dealt with other ways. A sword, for example, will not be destroyed with a basic fire, so other methods of exorcism would be best served there. Most things burn, though. And as far as intent, well - if you perform a ritual to cast the energy of the haunting, that is what will happen. You'll give the haunting freedom and power to move, sending the energy forth like a spell. If you perform a ritual to cleanse the haunting, then that is what will happen. You'll give the flames the power to feed on the energy of the haunting, using it as fuel until the haunting and the object are consumed, and the only thing left is the fire.

Also, if an energy or a sentient being is truly tied to an object that serves as its house, then destroying the house will not necessarily set it free. A power or entity that is dependent upon an object in order to exert any influence or power is usually severely weakened by the destruction of that object. There are plenty of exceptions to that, but, supposing I burn a wooden sword that has a powerful servitor housed inside it, the servitor will either be destroyed with its house or will simply fade away afterwards without the house to protect it. Generally, only a natural entity that was captured and bound to the object (like demon binding, or capturing entities in spirit jars) would be "freed" once the house is destroyed because the spells that captured and locked it away would be gone. Most artificial things and more basic haunting's would simply be destroyed with the thing that houses it, providing that the destruction is sufficiently potent.

Shin, I usually agree with your advice but I just don't here. And the reason is only because my reply is 'not always'. Everything you wrote is an awesome reply but when you come across things that yellow fire doesn't burn - it's a whole different ballgame.

But as for a general rule of thumb, awesome post dude.

I also said things like:

[wink2]

It does depend. As you said, not everything can be burned by a basic flame. That's why we have other methods - different tools for different circumstances.

So the wooden word works like a seal/sigil?

Is it fair to say: Don't use fire or breaking when dealing with natural/already existing energy, spirirt, demons but using fire can be an option if it is an unnatural or created energy, spirit, demon.
