I cant astral project D:

Post by Truth Teller »

Although I'm not consistently attempting to do it. I've tried on several occasion, but it just never happens. I'll really love if you have a trick or short cut to doing it. Ive tried the conventional method and Ive also listened to meditating astral projection music on YouTube to help me do it. It didn't quite work, just made my ears buzz. Ive watched videos and read article, none worked either.

There really isn't any shortcut. It just takes time.
The important part is to relax and let it happen, it has a tendency to happen when you stop focusing on it to happen.

This. Traditionally speaking, astral projection was an advanced skill that was taught several years into the student's training, while there are certain "tricks," for lack of a better word, which can be used to achieve partial and inconsistent results without having undergone training (usually involving an attempt to transfer the consciousness into the astral by way of lucid dreaming or sleep paralysis), they are far from reliable.

If you're absolutely determined to have some kind of OBE without undergoing the usual prerequisite training, the only method I can recommend in good conscience is the training courses offered at the Monroe Institute, which I've heard nothing but good things about. They utilize binaural beat technology to induce altered states of consciousness which frequently lead to participants experiencing OBE's (I'd recommend My Big T.O.E. by Thomas Campbell or Suddenly Psychic by Maureen Caudill for two autobiographical accounts which go into extensive details of what the Monroe Institute's program is like).

But even then I think you're shorting yourself and that you'd be much better off undergoing the proper training to build a steady foundation. If you do choose to explore the Monroe Institute option, I'd also strongly suggest that you fork out the money to visit the institute in person and attend one of their courses, not attempt to use downloaded copies of their technology.

My experience has been that projecting without a sufficiently developed mental and energetic body is something akin to going deep sea diving while extremely drunk - it might work, but the experience will be messy, confusing, disorienting, probably dangerous and almost definitely impossible to remember properly.

Could you (or anyone else) recommend some material on learning astral projection the proper way or is it not recommended without a teacher?

You can do it yourself. Get 2-3 books from a respectable publisher like llewellyn or red weiser and take out the parts that are similar.
You almost always have to tweak things like this a little bit to get it to work for you to, but it is really a simple procedure. That's probably why it is so hard in the beginning :D

The best books on Astral travelling are from Robert Monroe, IMO. With them you'll learn quite a few things, from an average guy who ended up mastering the OBE practice. He doesn't have any pretentions, he simply shares his experiences, theories, technique ect.

- Journeys Out Of The Body - Robert Monroe (1971)

- Far Journeys - Robert Monroe (1985)

- Ultimate Journey - Robert Monroe (1996)

See also the Monroe Institute:

Do Monroe's works give actual techniques? And do they involve his binaural technology? I was under the impression that they were more in the nature of autobiographical/speculative works.

That said, I've read books from two other people who've had success with the Monroe Institute (My Big T.O.E. by Campbell and Suddenly Psychic by Caudill) and it seems pretty legitimate. If you're really set on an OBE without going through the earlier training, you could always try one of their programs.
