Tarot is obviously the most popular form of divination. Many say it's the best divination medium because it encompasses all life/experiences, but how does it compare to Runes? How indepth are Runes in comparison to Tarot? What are the major differences between the two?
For those pagans who use Runes, do you feel as if while using the Runes, you're communicate with a Nordic deity, possibly Odin? If you also read the Tarot, do you feel you're communcating with the gods through it's use?
Thanks a lot.

I view the runes as symbolic of universal forces that are at work. I don't feel as if I'm connecting with Odin, although I do call on him to aid me in the runecast. As far as the depth of a runecast, it depends on the spread. The usual runecast is a three rune spread of past, present, and future and is good for most questions. The next step up is a five rune spread that includes forces working for or against you. This is about the "depth" of a tarot reading in my experience.
If you really need to know more, there are nine to twenty four rune spreads out there.
As far as comparing to the Tarot, the runes are more direct. There isn't a lot of "Hmm. It's possible that an adversary may be working against you." It's more "OH CRAP! You drew Hagalaz...well, be careful, because the fecal matter is about to impact the oscillating device,"
I find that the real trick behind a rune reading is to do it a lot, and familiarize yourself with how different runes affect each other in a reading. For example, if you were ask a question concerning your monetary situation, and you drew Hagalaz - Gebo - Jera (misfortune/ hail, a gift, and harvest respectively) treat each as flowing into and affecting the interpretation of the next.

I use both tarot and runes. I use runes for general answers. The tarot I use to get more details on for the question. I don't know if Odin himself speaks through the runes to me. But the spirit in the runes does speak to me with the readings I do.

Learning to become proficient with any form of divination is rather like learning to become proficient in a foreign language. Just as one must learn to think in that language, one must also learn to think in the chosen form of divination. I can 'think' in runes, whereas I can not 'think' in tarot.

i "think" more through tarot than runes, though I haven't practiced with them much (runes).
i don't think that I am directly communicating with any specific god when I do divinatory readings, although I do ask for the assistance of my patron goddess before I start the work.
What I beleive is that these methods can help us tap into our own subconcious knowledge, which is also "the truth" of the matter, at least to you. This is not the same as a god or goddess "giving" you the answer to your query. Rather, you already know, in a deep level, what the answer is....the divinatory excercise is simply to help you understand and believe it.
So either method could be equally "effective" for someone - it comes down more, imo, to what resonates with you personally.
