Spirit Familiars

Hello,

I wasn't quite sure where this should go, but I thought the Chaotes would be more experienced with the Alphabet of Desire, sigils, etc.

I recently picked up Donald Tyson's book Spirit Familiars. I was looking to conjure up more of a permanent magical companion that would always be around me. Something you might find in cunning witch lore.

So, most of his book is OK, but I wasn't that excited about using his glyph system, and would rather use my own. Yes, I could just make up a sigil for my familiar, but what about all the meanings for each glyph, astrological and elemental correspondences, etc. or did Donald Tyson just create this whole system from scratch. Anyways, his glyphs just don't gel with me.

Does anyone have any tips for creating your own glyph system in this vein?

Use what you understand, what pleases your eye, and don't limit yourself. It is YOURS and only yours... screw what others think.

there is another trend dealing with this subjetct elsewhere, and it looks kinda of a devenlopment of the method...it is like the operator created a series of such sigils in her entity creation; it looked to me just like she composed a whole life story for her servitor; and it seem that her results where dire!
i am saying such as i am new here and gratefull to have found you! me i'm quite hard on the "making believe' system of sigilization...but it appeals greatly to my artistic sense (taurus sun with uranus in libra); it is not hard to work with...the only difficulty is to make it work
but there is a quite strong sense of childlike behaviourism inside its paradigms that seem to be fun...

guess the better choice is to take some banishing previously with aimless scratching to free ones mind from prejudice in pictorical conception, then having a suitable statement of intent try the usual sistems of gliphage (the better thing in not being a natural user of the language is that one feels free to think one can create new terms!)
