I can't do magic anymore.

(This was the best suited board for this IMO, so feel free to move this thread if I am wrong)

A few years ago, I used to do low magic. I'd create heat or electricity, or I'd make it rain. Party tricks like that. I stopped when I got depressed (long story...for another time) and stopped using magic. Now I have been trying to do small things like that, and it just doesn't work. I was only young, about 8 when I started, and 13 when I stopped, so I should be more adept now, no? What could I possibly be doing wrong?

I have the same problem. Apparently after awhile of using your power for too long if gets weaker and I think you have to heal your aura and recharge your power.

It could be confidence, and it could be the wrong state of mind. Just because you are older doesn't mean you are confident. Also if you are going at it with the wrong state of mind it can put up barriers for you as well.

Also, just like in anything. If you haven't done it in a while you need to practice to get back to it again.

Also if you are now older it is more than likely that some part of you disbelieves that you can actually acomplish these things. Society as a whole tells us that Magick is impossible, even on the more realistic scale that we practice here. (as opposed to bolts of lighting and flying which are movie magick only) In short i think all of need to fight this constant inner struggle with the voice of society for magick will not work without belief in it.

I have the same problem. Except I consciously, I guess you could say "binded" my own abilities since I was lacking control over them and it was driving me insane. I got scared you know. But now that I'm older and more mature, I really want them back. I need them. I didn't realize how much harder life is without them. Your problem could be caused by stress. You know as I child we don't have as many responsibilities and so many things to worry about as adults do.

When I was in elementary school a friend came up with some book on the occult. It was probably crap but felt pretty frighteningly real to a bunch of 5th graders.

Anyway, one afternoon at recess a friend did one of the rituals that involved slapping a boulder three times with a rag and saying some incantation. The goal was rain, and we immediately got a huge burst of wind, and large amounts of rain for 3 days or so.

Scared the crap out of me at the time.

Now? I doubt there's any way in hell slapping a rock and saying some words would do anything.

Change your attitude to start. I agree with other people that you may be looking at things without confidence. Start small, then. Things that you know will work like meditation. Meditate on bringing your magical abilities back to you and let your subconscious take over. It's always easiest to start with what you -know- is true and then build from there.

This is a little jung advice

Play like you were when you were a little kid. Enter the mind state you were in when you were 8 years old. Clean out the muck that depression can build up in your subconscious through playtime and analyze why you're playing what you are and how it makes you feel so you can find out what the problem is and why your magick isn't working.

If you decide to do it, you mustn't feel weird or embarrassed about doing it, or else it'll make it worse. Write it down and meditate and draw pictures of what you analyzed.

Don't think of it as an experiment, have fun with it as you would when you were 8.

You know, that's actually very good advice. I like Jung. I wish I wasn't broke. I would have a library filled with Nietzche, Jung, Darwin, Einstein and Voltaire and so many others.

What you could do then is impossible to do now. Try focusing on what you can do now, instead of what you could do before.

If I stop making jewelry for a long time, I can not expect to be as good as on my peak when I pick it up again. Magick like any skill require maintenance. It is not that you have lost the ability, it is that you are out of practice. If you get back into it your abilities will come back if you work at it.

Also you may need different methods when when you where a child. I used to have these childish little spells when I was little. One of them I still use, it it is easy to think a thing is childish and will not work, and if you think that, then plain and simple, it will not work.

We all have different ways to use magick, for some a complicated ritual do the trick, for others just concentrating, but that have nothing to do with age or that the older mind need such tools, it have to do with what the individual need, and how the individual make contact with the forces behind magick.

There are quite many old psionics that never use rituals, it is an individuality thing, not an age thing.

I was the victim of a pretty nasty magical attack (I have pretty legitimate confirmation in the physical reality that it happened) a couple years ago and that has seriously messed up my magical workings. My psychic abilities have improved, but everything else kind of sucks.

Magickal muscles need flexing regularly,I think,or atrophy sets in.I'm on a bit of a hiatus myself,but mine is deliberate.I used a lot of 'juice' recently and I need to rest up to get fully 'magickally fit' again.

Start small,get into regular practice again and build it slowly.Just my tuppence.
