seeing your astral body?
Yesterday, I was lying down practicing visualization and I began floating. I could see nothing but black (like the back of my eyelids kind of black). After a while, I began falling, yet couldn't see a damn thing. I was falling in pitchblack. I realized what was happening (that I was falling in the middle of a complete void) and immediately opened my eyes.

However, I opened my eyes before I had a chance to return to my body. When I opened my eyes, I felt an intense feeling in my body (as if riding a rollercoaster) and saw what looked like a very hazy cloud descending upon me. It all happened in a matter of a second.

What troubles me about this is not the cloud or the feeling, but the fact that the two coincided. At the same time that the cloud reached my body, the feeling stopped.

And all I could think to say was "what the hell just happened?"

Here's what I think:

The fact that I could see (what I'm pretty sure was) my astral body above me at the same time that I felt the return to my physical body with my physical body tells me that my astral body was some sort of a copy transmitting sensory information back to my physical body.

For me, this explains how come I could feel my astral body (which I could clearly see floating above me) descending, yet feel it from a location outside of my astral body (i.e. from the location of my physical body).

Any thoughts?

Or maybe it wasn't my astral body that I saw. But there was definitely something there and it certainly wasn't my breath backing up.

Yeah, but I'm wondering how in the hell I was actually able to physically see (a physical representation of) my soul when I wasn't even in trance anymore. (I happen to believe the astral plane is the world soul and the astral body is my piece of that soul.) How come, when I wasn't in trance anymore, my sense of sight was able to perceive the subtle energy of my astral body?

I just wanna know whether or not what I saw actually was my astral body because if it definitely was then that says a lot about whether or not the astral body actually leaves the body during astral projection or if it creates a copy of itself and sends that out onto the astral plane.

A short preface- I think you already know that our physical senses, such as sight, are only our brains way of interpreting vibratory patterns. We see light waves, hear sound waves, and feel groupings of atoms as solid objects. There is more around us that we percieve, but our physical senses are not able to registar them all. When we let go of logic in the dream state, we have other means to interpret waves and particals around us.

I would bet that what you saw was not taking place outside yourself but within. For example, if you've ever had a piece of lint on your eye and then look at a white background you see the annoying little thing float around in front of you. When you start to separate from your body (although I don't believe that it's completely literal) you might see swirls of color behind your closed eyes or geometric forms. In this case, being conscious while reintigrating you see the dark haze descending upon you as come back together and fully wake.

Another option is that this was the shadow of a guide resetting you into your body. They are able to detatch you, replace you, and even lock you down sometimes if they think it's necessary. They don't really like to make themselves obvious to us, but they are always around. My own will sometimes leave me sigils that I can see for a few seconds after waking, they indicate who it was that was working with me and what level we were visiting.

When we do get to actually see astral bodies while we are awake, they usually appear like ghosts of the person or balls of light. I believe that would be the same for viewing your own self. Although scrying yourself can produce other results (seperate topic I think).


Lastly, the dark void state is indicitive of using one of the more multifunctional bodies that we have at our disposal. If you time travel, or go great distances, this is the body that you use. If you want to look at it from another perspective, in the dark void state you can create entire setting in an istant and then switch forms to one that can interact with them.

Im not certain during AP one is projecting something outwards at all. I think its more of an injection of your self into a different form of consciousness. The concepts of projection,astral bodies etc are easy intuitive ideas to express this. I often can feel tactile sensations from my gross material body while "projecting" not to the point of being able to function or move but deffinitly receive sense data. As to what you experienced it could be any number of things. after image of whatever experience you had. interpratation of a vague experience is hard to really give good commentary on. But it is possible to be able to perceive the "astral" and other "realms" translated through the gross material senses. The translation is usualy a bit odd being as the formats of the experiences differ so greatly tho.
