I think they are asking for something not necessarily "not dark", but real.
Anyhoo, I would suggest checking out witchvox.com. They have a community page that has a great deal of info on groups and gatherings and you may find one in your area.

I am not a witch or have ever been affiliated but I used to live in Washington state, and I knew/know a great many people in the occult community.
Spokane has a few serious covens and groups. There is also a LHP group that is inclusive of many different traditions if that is what you are looking for.
PaulS would be a good one to ask about the Seattle area.

My apologies, DevilsDelight. My last post sounded extremely condescending. That was not my intent.
I think they are just looking for something that is not entirely Wiccan (which sometimes is hard to find). I don't think they meant that Wiccans are incapable of or unwilling to work with some of the "darker" sides of magick.

I live in Washington State, the seattle area, well close enough. I see where your coming from, with the non wicca influence. I think what you mean is more hands on magic, not worshipping etc. This is something i also crave. I live in Yakima, Washington a small city 2 hour's away from Seattle. Not many practicioner's here but i would love to meet more people or coven's that specifically just do magic, and that is there purpose etc. If you live in the area, which i doubt, but if you do, the whole just magic quality is something i got. I am not of the Wicca nature but i do respect Wicca. I soley practice magic and that's it. Feel free to PM me or anything like that.
If you are in the Seattle area, like people have said, PaulS is the guy to contact. I hope to contact him sometime next year when i move down there, very knowledgeable guy and all.
Sincerely,
GM

Grey Magician,
Thank you for the plug. . .
back to the ground again:
I am one of many that you can contact in the Seattle area. Most are Wiccan, Druid or Ceremonialists but the group we have is Sumerian. We are beginning classes in the near future as we have 3 new people dedicating this Saturday. We don't focus on "worship" as much as communing within our ritual structure and there is room for all kinds of new things. Magik is used when we do our Esbats and as the group matures we will be teaching much more than they know.

thank you, and for the record, i didn't find it condenscending...just clarifying...
when i hear someone refer to "dark" and witch in the same context, i find it puzzling why people start designating magick as black and white...dark and light?
what is a dark witch versus one that embraces all aspects of nature, is there a difference beyond contemporary idealism?
the non wiccan part i can understand...

Thanks GM and Paul for your reply. Yes, Yakima is far for me. I live near Tacoma about 5 min. away. Paul I would be interested in your coven. Could you send me more information about joining?
As for the implication that I think of magick in black or white or any color. Sorry, I don't think magick has color. I do think it has the intent and will of the one practicing it and my term dark witch was that of the nature of me as a witch not the color of my magick. HOpe that straighten that out?

Oh, I thought she meant like a witch that practices in nocturnal witchcraft or something like that. Hey scarlettess, you said that you practiced with a witch in Maryland, can you tell me what part because I'm from Maryland and were I am there are barley any witches or practitioners of the occult. But there is a group that I sometimes join in because a couple of the people in the circle are my friends.

Scarlettess,
Lets get together and talk first - joining a group is a bit like being adopted and adopting a family. We all need to get to know you before we invite you to join. We can get together for coffee, tea, an ice cream cone or just a walk. I can discuss this with my wife and our group and plan a little BBQ on some weekend or a social some evening. . . depending how that goes you could be invited to a ritual or two and even join in a couple of classes that we will be having - we have three members dedicating this Saturday which is the reason for new classes starting.
If you email me at:
paul(AT)kats-robes(DOT)com
with no caps, no spaces, (AT)=@, (DOT)=.
and ask for information of the Arratu tradition's Temple of Water and Stone I would be happy to send you some information about our tradition and our group.
You can also join in the COAST meet-n-greet at our home on August 1st at 1:00
Email me for particulars.

Well, dark person would be subjective. What do you mean? I mean darker in my area of study and personal desires and nature of what I am drawn to magically and sometimes secularly. In ancient times we were called devil worshippers and evil, but that is not the case. I work with gods, deities, goddesses, diamones ( demons), powers that would be considered dark And draw energy from that. It use to be occult was hidden and concealed and for the most part it is still well so. I am bvery interested in that which is outside the realms of what is in most peoples comfort zone. Actually, you could say I am drawn to it naturally without deny myself this that is inherint in me.
So, does that help?

Well, you could call it a person witch who practices the dark arts to put it simply. (Non-Wiccan)

I prefer Grey, ha ha ha. But seriously how we define thing's in life is white, grey and dark. Now white in my eye's is healing, helping people, looking up to the divine for answers. Dark i define it as for power, greed, hurting other's, generally looking out for yourself and not caring about other's or the divine. Then grey, my favorite. Grey is having both. You still help people and look up to the divine, yet punish people accordinally towards their actions etc. Then you still can crave power and success for yourself, but you still care if the guy across the street is hit by a car or going insane due to someone putting a spell on them. Personally i think white and black are so overrated. Most of us are truly in the grey area. We do white thing's but then do black as well, mix those colour's and you got grey. Grey Magician's do magic that pertains to the specific event, what is going on now. They don't purely focus on good things or bad things, they do both.
This is just my opinion of the definitions. But what i am gettin g at from Scarlettess is simply magic that isn't calling the divine but for personal advancement and not those simple magic's but the more complicated, the one's that you can sink your teeth into. Very much so what i practice and want to evolve into, a powerful mage. But again this is my opinion of what i get off of scarlettess. I could very well be wrong.
Sincerely,
GM

Heh heh, Grey, I prefer green myself!
I have heard many definitions of dark magics, destructive, evil, otherworld work, self advancement, this is why I am interested in what Scarletess had to say about it. I would have thought the self advancement one is most obvious, but at the same time, I try to imagine this in an altruistic/symbiotic type group like a coven, and something jars, which is why I am confused.
My personal path is to work in balance, to do what I best judge as 'the right thing' in the spirit of natural justice, and this means working in a variety of realms of magic, dependant on the situation. I tend not to call on the divine, but if they turn up and have nothing better to do, I am quite happy to work alongside them.

A dark witch could be construed as (one) who follows a Luciferian based system of witchcraft belief, such as myself.

Kash i tend to not call on the divine eitheir. Personally i believe that all they are beside's higher being's is conscentrated energy. They have more conscentrated energy, so it works better and faster then usual. But energy is all around us, the earth, the moon, the universe everywhere. I like taking the credit all myself for my magical workings, so i raise the energy and send it out myself. If i can say so i do pretty damn good. You might say what i practice is for self advancement and if that is dark then so be it. But when has it been bad to look out for yourself and advancement for yourself. Personally i think that, that is how people get to where they are, looking out for themselve's.
But i have to agree with scarlettess, i crave for a coven or circle that does magic on there own. Create's thing's in this world through sending of energy, magic's, whatever you want to call it, and doesn't just ask a deity to do it and then that is all the spell consist's of. I want to get involved with some hardcore mage's that practice alot etc. That is what i do, but i would love to surround myself with those kinds of people and that kind of enviornment.
Sincerely,
GM
