Babylonian resources quest
Original post: ArchMarduk
Hi to all .... new to this community but I like what see here so I wondered if anyone could help me a little .... I'm deeply into babylonian ancient esoterism and so far all I could find are some scarce reference's to quote of texts, but all from the period after Marduk became head of the panteon of babylonian gods. If anyone could point me to some more material on the babylonian's, but the period before the transition was made ....
P.S. ohhh. .... and I mean babylonian not mesopotamian ... if possible

Babylonian mythology departs from its predecessors with the ascension of Marduk, so there's not much exclusively Babylonian stuff before that. Most of the gods worshiped before Marduk (and during his time) were Sumerian.
In between Sumer and Babylon, Akkad and Assyria ruled Mesopotamia. I think those are the only transitional periods you could really find. So look up Akkadian and Assyrian mythology. But most of these were still Sumerian, just with some slight modifications.
But Babylonian mythology... never seen it without Marduk in charge. The only times I didn't were in the Sumer-Akkad-Assyria time periods.

One of the First Books I translated into PDF was "Babylonian & Assyrian Myths" BY THEOPHILUS G. PINCHES, LL.D. . You'll find It on The L&L Website, under Dusty Tomes! I had a feeling there might a call for it.
It's in The Starving Sorcerer's Library section. As Always, all the PDF's I post are free.
I hope it Helps,

Hey, Rena.
I've seen most texts where Marduk is NOT the head of the pantheon. Emlil, Enki, and Azzer- ...I mean "Ashur" are the heads. (The last one solely in Assyria). The CITY of Akkad was nothing but a "Mecca" of The Faithfull, in that region, as it was the home of the Ziggurat of Ashur.
I'm a bit Brain-Fried, today. Yard Work: Wheew!
UI hope I didn't speak out of context, ~L~

When Babylon becomes the dominant power in Mesopotamia it's local god, Marduk, is edited into the mythology as a major god. Previously he was not relevant outside his particular city.
This is a common pattern through Mesopotamian history. When a City-state would become the most powerful in the region they would re-write the origin story and general mythology to put themselves as the most important.
To the OP, if you want to understand Babylon you are going to need to understand Mesopotamia in general. Trying to isolate just one period will leave you more baffled then you can imagine.

Not possible. You must familiarize yourself with the big picture to understand the pieces of the puzzle that went into making it, as well as how those pieces fit together. Utukki limnuti, surpu, maqlu, Enuma Elish...
