i have been considering getting "brisingamen" (Freyas dwarven necklace)
tattooed around my shoulders, as I feel I have a particular affinity with Freya.
To simply carry my altar on myself, in endearment and tribute.
also looking into sigils, bindrunes, compasses, etc.
but Im just curious on thoughts and reactions?
thanks!

If it are symbols that mean allot to you I think it is a good idea. I would think long and hard about having a rather large tattoo in a place so hard to hide, not becouse I do not think tattoos are nice, but they are there for life. But yes I think it sounds nice of that is your Spirituality.

I have a runic tattoo and will soon be getting another. I put up a link in another topic you may find useful, here it is again, it has a couple of pages on tattoos, bindrunes etc. Look in 'rune charms' too. [I 'm not 'plugging' this site - but it is starting to feel like it a bit, tho'.lol]

I think that would make a great tattoo! That's a unique idea I wouldn't have thought of myself. Bindrunes, sigils, and the like are simpler, but Freya's necklace is a great idea. I've been pondering what kind of tattoo I want lately, and I think it'll be a few good years before I finally decide on one design without changing my mind for a while.

Why not? Norse symbols look awesome, and if it's got a special meaning, then that's double the bonus! I think if I ever got a tattoo, I'd want to be marked with runes too.

Before you mark yourself permanently with symbols and sigils, be absolutely sure you understand their meanings and implications. It's similar to what I tell people who wear crystals or other power items as constant pieces of jewelry. Certain things were not meant for decoration.

Hey is there an image somewhere of what you're getting tattooed? I couldn't seem to find one. Cool idea. Although I think you should be careful as you may have to sleep with four dwarves to get it. Of course that version of the story was written by Christians yes?

Me personally I was always partial to the world tree. Though I think I'd get more the celitc version. This chick has got the world tree with Odin and everything. One of the coolest tattooes I've ever seen.

Not really what you were looking for but at least stickin' with the norse theme.

Any tattoo of a magickal symbol can open up conduits of energy that can be a bit unexpected and sometimes more difficult to manage than you'd think - it took me a bit of adjustment after having my chaos cross tattooed until I didn't feel like I was channeling more energy than I was capable of handling. But with some meditation and minor adjustments, I can now say that it's one of the best decisions I ever made.

I have a tattoo of the Odal rune from a few years ago, that I keep meaning to get covered up, but never get around to.

Sounds interesting, could you perhaps post a picture/link and the magical use of the symbol? As for advice, it probably goes without saying that whenever you decide to awaken/consecrate the symbol, you should incorporate some sort of phrase or gesture to temporarily deactivate its influence in case the need arises. Drawing a sealing rune with your finger over the tatoo would probably suffice.

I don't have a link to a picture of it, but just google "odal rune", then click images, and you'll see it.

That's why I've never gotten a tattoo. I'm pretty sure after about a year or two it wouldn't suit me any more either. Although I was seeing this rune in nature for a while. But it was part of a transition and so changed.

My wife has been arguing with me not to get anchors tattooed on my forearms, like Popeye. I think it would be awesome.

That may backfire on you as you may suddenly have the urge to eat a lot of spinach. I guess it all depends on whether or not you like spinach.

I have the rune Thurisaz tattooed on my back.

I love tattoos and think that if you have a special affinity with one then good for you. however a small warning with the tattooing of magickal symbols, especially runes, they can have an affect on your body when tattooed there, so it was suggested to me that you have it done temporarily at first or have it drawn on you where you want it by a friend and wear it like that for a few days to a week just to make sure that there aren't any instant feedbacks that could cause you pain or harm.
