Your Life Path Number
Original post: zeroflye
I've stumbled on this a year back, but didn't think much of it.
Now, it seems to me to be fairly accurate as I look more closely.
From what system is this Life Path number associated with?
Numerology alone?
"The Life Path is the sum of the birth date. This number represents who you are at birth and the native traits that you will carry with you through life. The most important number that will be discussed here is your Life Path number. The Life Path describes the nature of this journey through life.
The Life Path number is established from the date of birth. First, convert the month to a single number . Then convert the day of birth to a single digit . Next, add the total digits of year and reduce this sum to a single digit . The individual digits representing the month, day, and year, be they single digits, are then added together, as necessary to reduce the sum once again to a single digit 1 through 9.
Example: If a person was born on October 23, 1972 (10-23-1972), add the month 10 (which is reduced to 1) to the day 23 (which is reduced to 5) plus the the year 1972 (which reduces to 19, then to 10 and finally to 1). Thus, the total of the month, day, and year is 1+5+1. This date is a 7 Life Path. The "master numbers, " 11, 22, and 33, have been incorporated within the corresponding single digit number readings."
Here's an easier way for those of you who don't want to do the math:

The explanations it gives are very lacking, though, and most sites explain them in depth, this one being a good resource once you find yours...

Some Famous Individuals and their Life Path Numbers...
Anton LaVey - 1 (leader)
William S. Borroughs - 11 (highly creative)
David Bowie - 3 (unique self)
Genesis P. Orridge - 3 (unique self)
Trent Reznor - 7 (the loner)
Marilyn Manson - 4 (the visionary)
Charles Manson - 22 (spiritual family, negetive: manipulation)
Madonna - 11 (highly creative)
It seems 11 and 22 are the rarest outcomes.
11 being a 'supercharged' 2, and 22 being a supercharged 4.
Looking on the meaning of these numbers when applied to these people is sometimes spookily accurate in what we know of them.
Do you think it's interesting, obsolete, complete hogwash?
Mine is Life Path 1, what are you?

I'm a three, but I don't think it's completely accurate. Actually, I'm a mix of all the attributes of the numbers. Either way, I really don't think this system merits any kind of inherent validity. If you want to limit yourself to one description of a number, that's fine, but you're only limiting yourself (when in all reality you're manifold).
Just remember, it's not the number that makes the person.

I'm not implying I believe in it. If anything, Charles Manson was the big hitter.
Interesting, but in all another new age sensibility which tends to restrict any said belief system.

The reason I find this interesting is that if they would have let me be born naturally, according to the doctor, I would have been born on the 11th, which would have made me an 11 according to the chart thingy. But, they induced me (the bastards!) and subsequently I am a 9. Now, reading through the profiles, I am not a 9. I basically could give a damn about sacrificing for a greater social good, and I don't sacrifice time money and energy for a utopian ideal, at all. There are many reasons for this, that I won't go into here, but while I love people in general, the idea of focusing my energy on forcing them to be my ideal of a perfect world makes me sick..
But, if I look at the 11 profile, which is what I should have been, I feel much more at home. I am very self analytical, and very very sensitive to everything around me, so much that when I was younger I had hard core problems adjusting, just as the profile says... so I wonder if perhaps you could get a more accurate read based on conception, and focusing on a birth date from that, then from an actual birth date...or who knows, maybe being induced has drain bamaged me beyond all repair...ahh!!!

I got number 8 as well and is way off, not just in my concept of self but in how anyone would observe me or my actions to be.

There it is peeps! Now bow down and give me all of your money! No, seriously, you don't need to worry about the little trolls in the corner.
Your purpose in life is to lead others.
You have great drive and determination. Nothing is going to stand in your way.
You seek out challenges and the spotlight. You'll take all the work - and all the glory.
Status and success are important to you. You demand the best from everyone and everything.
In love, you tend to take a protective role. You enjoy being the provider in relationships.
You expect others to be like you, and as a result, you are often disappointed.
A little selfish and vain, you always put yourself first.
Remember, everyone already knows you're great - you don't need to remind them!

11 over here. What's interesting is that I was "supposed" to be born on another day, and while the numbers are otherwise rather different, the life path number of the other date is also 11. While I see numerology in general as not exactly the most trustworthy source of information due to the man-made nature of number systems, math, dates etc, I must say I kind of like being life path 11
sort of balances the "what's with that whole creative/sensitive/spiritual/magickal aspect of her? that's not in the script!" impression I've got from everything else I've been able to understand from the astrology and numerology things pertaining to myself.
Although with the 2 and 11 life paths it's kind of bizarre. Because if you have 29 or 37 as the sum total of the numbers of the date for example, you get 11... do you then add 1+1=2 or not? If you do... you only get a few dates in the whole century when a path 11 person could be born. If you don't... you only get a few dates in the whole century when a path 2 person could be born. Possibly/probably something similar with path 22 vs 4. So I'm not really sure how it's supposed to work out... does anyone know?

"do you then add 1+1=2 or not"
Master numbers like 11 are not reduced.
11 is 11/2, so just a 1 is added.
11 and 22 seem to be the most sparingly born numbers.
Some other conclusions:
Alexander the Great - 5
Aleister Crowley - 7
Adolf Hitler - 11
George Washington - 8
Nietzsche - 7
would have thought Alexander to be a 1, Crowley an 11 or 22,
and hitler to be anything from 1, 11, 22.
Then again, Crowley was known as 777, and Hitler was an artist before all the mess happened

Many quabbalist use a similar system and will equate a life path with a sephirah on the tree of life. Also many tarot practitioners will use the same technique to discover your life path from the major acana of the tarot. Another interesting way to look at things if you could be bothered.

Just to add as well, I found the definitions and meanings on the site you linked to to be very commercial sounding and retail numerology styles. Pretty far removed from the traditional quabbalistic interpretations that most modern numerology is based on. Doesn't make the quabbalists any more right though.

I'm a 3 and the description is surprisingly insightful.
That actually IS me. Interesting.Your purpose in life is to express your unique self.
You are a creative and artistic person with an interesting view on life.
Witty and outgoing, you enjoy sharing your crazy ideas with anyone who will listen.
A total social butterfly, you're the life of any party.
In love, you inspire and enchant your partner. You are often an object of fantasy and desire.
While you are very talented, you sometimes lack the ambition to put your talents in play.
And while your wit carries you a long way, you occasionally use it to mask your true feelings.
Your natural abilities can bring you all the success in the world ... if you let them

Ive taken a few of these tests before..Ive gotten 3, 8, and 11,
so maybe I'm a combination of the three? I would be very interested to finding out if this has any merrit whatsoever in actualy nemerology..
seems kinda fluffy (although fun) to me.

I don't see how you can have a 3, 8, and 11, being based entirely on your birthdate.
Anyway, after seeing the various outcomes and attitudes towards this quaint little button-pushing existentialism, I (personally) conclude that synchronicity is as it always was, and comes alive only when the gaze is focused on a positive desire to believe in it, also coupled with the sometimes undeniable coincidence of coupled attributes. The two may create a deadly combination, serving to crystalize a belief of this nature.
Although I hold numerology with a great respect, in regards to Kabala and other practices, not excluding our natural subconscious tendency towards the entirely human essence of numbers, I'll concede to the basic notion that an entire Life cannot be summed up in numerical quality, and if it can, by Occult methods, it hasn't been discovered properly yet.
DBN.

I agree. The current methods for obtaining this information seem flawed to me. Who's to say this year 2007, is accurate? Assuming the calendar was correct, and I don't think it is, who decided year 1 when it all started? Why not make the year before that year 1? Or the year before that? See what I'm saying? So the years are most likely totally off. Maybe the months and days could be somewhat accurate. But even still I feel the whole system is flawed.
I usually can't help but laugh when I hear people say A=1, B=2, C=3 method. Why does A=1, B=2. Have you ever really thought about it? Just because A is the first letter and B the second? Seems too juvenile to me. Maybe the ancient Greek and Qabbalistic methods are better, but maybe not. I would say a new more accurate method is in order. But how would one go about arriving at this new system? I'll leave that to you to discover for yourselves, should you accept this mission.

Well, I know the UCS employs a kind of numerology technique where the prediction given before an answer both match up with each last word in each sentence of the prediction.
Most times it gives numerals going in threes...111,222,333, etc...
Although the numbers don't mean anything specifically, it's done as a test to see if the two people are being honest with eachother. Thought prosseses syncing up, and all that.

Just to clarify a few things...
Traditional numerology is based on the Qabalah.
Just as important in psychology as what is, is what is believed to be. So 2007, whether accurate or not is important because in the collective and individual unconsciouses, it "is" 2007.
And as far as that goes anyway, the whole year system is purely just based on "since jesus was born". So I take it many here aren't christians, so why is the accurate time since jesus was born important to you anyway? Maybe the real import lies in what is collectively agreed to.
Just as their is in many ways a collective agreement as to whom and what people can and should be.
Mathematical and numerological systems are "symbolic" ways of analysing the systems humans cereate in their concepts of what is acceptible, and more specifically possible.
Something to realise i al occult sciences is a basic understanding of what drives the "need" for them.
Science is based on rationalism, and rationalism as a language is too definite to ba able to form any accurate descriptions of such complex and indefinite things as personality, and eternity, and the universe completely.
So languages are developed which awaken and act on the parts of the mind which are beyond the limits of rationalisation. These symbolic languages appeal to intuition.
As theoretical languages, this can be useful for classification, in the attempt to unify, synthesise, and conect all knowledge, which is an atempt that every "rational" mind must make. As long as it is remembered that it is for this purpose alone unachievable, without thevelopment of a practical language to apply the language.
This is where these symbolic languages must have a practical element.
In terms of the quabalah (from which numerology is a superficial byproduct), there are two versions of this symbolic language.
The theoretical is the classification of knowledge upon the tree of life to form a rational network of all knowledge which is (and this is the only reason for creating a rational and theoretical language) a foundation from which to appraoch the practical application of the language.
The practical application of the language of the quabalah, is what is today most commonly refferred to as "Magick". It is the method by which the "intuition" that is required to "discover" (discovery is often called by practitioners to "divine") answers and ideas about complex subject matter such as self and god and universe, can be harnessed and controlled.
The intuitions we gain can then be described using the theoretical languge we have created, in aid of passing on this information. Yet for it to be truly understood by others, they must intui these answers for themselves.
Intuition does not rely on magick, and this is just one method by which it can be harnessed, just like as we develop our intuitions we discover that this is not the only purpose of and ability afforded by magick. One of the chiefs of these, and many would call this high magick, is to completely seperate our selves from the influence of the collective notion of self, and to be completely "free willed".
If though your intuition is something you are intimately connected to and have harnessed, then your need for a practical language for communication with your irrational self is non existant, and so to then is your need for a rational theoretical foundation for this practical language. So these symbolic languages (like numerology, tarot, qabalah, magick) are useless and in a way "meaningless" to you for those reasons. And in accordance with your own intuition seem, irrational!

Good post Extinctionspasm. Thanks for that. I see you know your stuff.
Now that you mention it, I do remember Paramahansa Yogananda once saying that the ancient astrologers and numerologists did indeed intuit the infomation about a birthchart for example.
So let's say you were a 7 for your life path number, you wouldn't just accept whatever the books tell you about 7, you would intuit the meaning for yourself. So even though you had the same life path number as someone else, it could have a completely different meaning for you. Same thing for astrology.

Well i came out a 7 which is not completely accurate in the description. For instance, i am a very social animal and i do not seek solitude all that much as my number description says.
Personally i think that it is a bit silly to determine such things based solely on the date someone is born. Afraid i am not much for predetermination or fate. We make our own selves and our own paths.
