Just realise you are dreaming a dream you call the world and stop looking for ways out. The dream is not your problem. Your problem is that you like one part of your dream and not another. Love all or none of it, and stop complaining. When you have seen the dream as a dream, you have done all that needs to be done

"You are not a human being in search of a spiritual experience, you are a spiritual being, immersed in a human experience." - (Teilhard de Chardin)

Be warned, this is a long one..

"When I say "love," the sound comes out of my mouth and hits the other person's ear, travels through this Byzantine conduit in their brain, through their memories of love, or lack of love, and they register what I'm saying, and they say "Yes, I understand," but how do I know they understand? Words are inert; They're just symbols; They're dead. You know? And, so much of our experience is intangible. So much of what we perceive cannot be expressed; It's unspeakable. Yet, when we communicate with one another, and we feel that we have connected, and we think that we are understood, I think we have a feeling of almost spiritual communion, and that feeling might be transient, but I think it's what we live for."

Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan 'Press On' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
Calvin Coolidge

Maybe not overtly spiritual by some definitions but this attitude has carried me through the most challenging times of my life and sustains me today, so its "spiritual" enough for me.

He also said...
If I had permitted my failures, or what seemed to me at the time a lack of success, to discourage me I cannot see any way in which I would ever have made progress.
That could apply to me, but if someone is "barking up the wrong tree" then persistence doesn't seem like such a great thing. :p

well youre stating the obvious here Mystikiwi. Of course Know Thyself is the foundation for anything. It took me a long time to "know myself" but I can tell you this: when a goal has real power, real authenticity to it, you know it. See my quote from Goethe earlier in this thread. The evolved mind can see the difference bewteen a flight of passion, an earthly desire, and a True Calling.

One of course needs the discretionary capabilities required to make this distinction. Its easy to mistake soemthing you WANT for something you ARE. Theyre not the same thing. Some people possess this aptitude quite early in life while others takeyears to develop it. the very act of trying and failing to a ccomplish a thing hones the intellect so these distinctions become clearer.

When you find the thing your soul wants the most, you will know. And dont let it go. there is nothing sadder than someone who gave up early in life and lives out their days as a shell of what they might have been. Nothing sadder then an unlived life. And it is never, EVER "too late".

Willy Wonka: Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.

I don't know why but the Cooledge quote reminded me of this.

Or perhaps more on topic -
Willy Wonka: [singing] There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination. Living there, you'll be free if you truly wish to be.

"We are a wondrous gathering of atoms formed into an incredible being, capable of experiencing our own existence. While we live this experience we must be thankful for it, and live it fully. When it ends, we return to what we were before it began. What we create and leave behind is our gift to those who will follow us. We return to the universe as we came from it, to be recreated, and recycled into the infinite all."

- Allan Revich

Do you want me to tell you something really subversive? Love is everything it's cracked up to be. That's why people are so cynical about it. . . . It really is worth fighting for, being brave for, risking everything for. And the trouble is, if you don't risk anything, you risk even more.

~ Erica Jong in How to Save Your Own Life (1977).

To become mature is to live more intensely in the present, at the same time escaping from the limitations of the present. The plans of maturity, founded on past experience, are coming into being in the present in such manner as to enhance the values of the future.

The future is past memories that are still potent enough to influence the now.

How is one to live a moral and compassionate existence when one finds darkness not only in one's culture but within oneself? There are simply no answers to some of the great pressing questions. You continue to live them out, making your life a worthy expression of leaning into the light.

I was told to challenge every spiritual teacher, every world leader to utter the one sentence that no religion, no political party, and no nation on the face of the earth will dare utter: 'Ours is not a better way, ours is merely another way.
