Is magick ability really something one can messure to se who is bigger and better? I mean someone very skilled as a healer might not even be able to comunicate with a Spirit and vice versa. I would say the most powerful occultist is the one who are proficient in most things and have the widest possible expertise so he or she could handle most things witch came in their way.

Spirit symbol. Can't work out the meaning right now, although... hrm... instinctively, it seems like "wakefulness" or similar... but still... It's spirit tongue, in its written form.

mmm, no not really.

it actually has *many* meanings. So in effect, it is a sort of compound symbol.

Circle is an interesting one, so simple and yet so hard to draw a perfect one by hand, it's got to be up there on the list of the oldest symbols of all time too..

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

though not necessarily in that language and/or order. But the blocks we use to build statements to express things that are in fact impossible to express.

I would say we should strive to come up with the most 'occult' one - taking to mean the most hidden or secret one.

Kath looking at your symbol I am guessing it is you and your teacher spirit intertwined.

But in general I would also go with the circle. It is to the point, ahem, a small pun.

About the most secret one - I would look to the layout of cities ancient and modern - and throw in some crop circle geometry.

it's actually many things. the symbol has evolved in meaning over the years. my mentor and I entwined in astral sex would be one of the many meanings though, yes.

since it's sparked a bit of interest...

I created it in the 90's. Originally it was an abstracted form of a woman, with a line catching only her shoulder, hip, and the curve of her hair. Over time I began to identify with the symbol, and I started signing artwork with it instead of a name. So it's first 'meaning' was sort of a sigil of 'me'. It was then that I learned of the word 'sigil', and I adopted it as my own personal sigil. Then later I was doing a painting, an interpretation of The Birth of Venus, and from the waters I painted a 3-D form based on this symbol, a sort of primordial moment in the birth of venus where form was coalescing out of formlessness. And so then the symbol took on the meaning of the birth of the goddess as well. It continued to evolve in subtle meaning, since then I have been able to see it as an abstracted ankh, a winged dragon, an upside down tongue of fire, a serpent, a kris, an image of eve with serpent entwined round her, the upper part resembles the yin/yang and the black/white interplay is deliberate, the symbol kinda resembles the heiroglyph for 'flax', and so on...

When I came to know my mentor, for years she did not give me a verbal name for herself. It was a lesson about quintessence & labels, as well as a ploy to keep me focused on *her*, as a real and present being, and not on what I have come to call 'label idolatry'. And so this vague feminine form did remind me of her, 'undefinable'.

And then, when it became known to me that she and I would eventually be one, avatar... well, the fact that I had alternatively seen this symbol as both myself, and as her... kinda made that much more sense.

In the end though, the symbol doesn't have real power. my mentor does, I do, the symbol is just a dim reflection of that. It's just a shape, which relates a story of my own spiritual evolution. And without explanation (and I have skimmed over a great deal), it is just a pretty shape. It is art, expressionist art, and these symbols: ABCD...XYZ can never *really* do it any justice, so I don't generally go out of my way to define it.

I think that the term "powerful" for a symbol is too relative.

I believe that the original poster's general "money symbol" may make it arguable that money is power, however that does not mean that the man with all the money in the world cannot have his "power" overthrown by something out of his perception like something as common as death.

A symbol always will have a general or a personal meaning and it's "power" depends on the person perceiving it.

I disagree, money is material gain and by all spiritual standards a no no, it locks you deeper into Malkuth and materialism, making it harder to free yourself from those Earthly binds.

If you put it that way, then isn't every symbol we use a part of materialism as they are composed of ink, pixels or something else?
