The book people tend to go with is "Liber Null and Psychonaut" by Peter Carroll. This is the source book that all members of the Illuminates of Thanateros (IoT) work through for the first year of their initiation. Another good one I've heard of is "Oven Ready Chaos", I believe by Phil Hine, but I have not read it myself.

And, of course. experiment. Experimentation is the best teacher after the basics are down.

May I recommend a book by a colleague of mine, Alan Chapman: Advanced Magick for Beginners. It does what it says on the front, nice and readable with exercises. I used to recommend Phil Hine's Condensed Chaos as the get-started book, but this one has overtaken even that.

I just looked up Advanced Magick for Beginners, and found a link with a number of chapters online... It's excellent stuff! I like his simple, straightforward, and methodical approach to theory. Probably going to just have to order this one.

Wow, yeah, I just followed the link, if the chapters there are an acurate reflection of the rest of the book, it seems to be a good beginers text.
