Present Moment Is A Presented Gift, Shake off burden of past & anxiety of future

Majority of people on our planet are bogged down by bitter memories of past & worries caused by unpredictable future. Thus our mental peace is shattered.
It is possible to calm down the mind through proper breathing because there is a close inter-relation between mental condition & breathing pattern. Any mental agitation or disturbance will immediately come down if we instantly resort to deep & slow breathing. This practice yields good results when practised with mental awareness.

Perhaps you might share some breathing techniques to help those who don't know any of their own?
For example, it is best to breathe with your diaphragm and not your chest. This involves expanding the stomach outward when inhaling and pulling it in when exhaling. This doesn't make you breath with your diaphragm all by itself per se...it still may take a conscious decision. I was frequented with chest pains and found out that it was because I was breathing in a way that utilized my chest more...and put stress on those muscles.
Another good breathing practice is to always breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. It's calming and soothing.
To test this, try breathing in through your mouth and out through your nose. Note how you feel. Now try the opposite and compare the differences.
Do you have any breathing techniques to help us out, durki?

Inhale for 4 counts, hold in or retain for 4 counts, exhale for 6 counts and then hold out for 2 counts. It makes one cycle. Do for 7 cycles at a stretch.

We can address the diaphram for breathing, beyond the lungs, and calm the body by doing this breathing at a pace that is comfortable for our own air capacity. Breathe deeply, slowly, comfortably (do not force the breath) expanding the diaphram, like blowing up a baloon. As you release the air, the tensions and stresses of the body tend to release as well (consider this a thought with the breathing) as you are breathing into the centre of your being, not high in the chest.
God bless, J

I agree that breathing exercises are helpful in calming the mind. As our fear response creates certain bodily manifestations such as shallow breathing, increased heart beat, tense muscles if you are in a state of constant anxiety and worry then your body will react and create a type of permanent unease.
Stress Hormones will continually flood the blood stream affecting the nervous system because of the emotions and thoughts and this feeds back into the mind. A kind of self fulfilling prophecy.
Some speculate that the stressors in life and the human mind's ability to replay past traumas consciously and subconsciously create this dis-ease that leads to illness, inability to concentrate, emotional imbalance and a whole host of ohter dis-orders.
But is it chicken and the egg, does a breathing exercise make overcome the mental processes that created the problem in the first place?

The breathing calms the individual to be able to identify and solve the tensions and stresses. This allows the body to heal and recover from the dis-comforts and illness of the stress. Breathing is the beginning.

i use 5 in, hold 5, 5 out, and hold 5 - and i count in heartbeats
there are many who's life-mission it is to magically work to protect the future against man-made war and our extinction, and we are working very hard on it, but they have their magicians too, and some of the threats against us are not even from here - and there are many who wish a great war, either to forcibly bring back their god, or attempt to stop it, or protect themselves, or some other people or country, at the expense of another
perhaps you are subconsciously being called into the fight

Eckhart Tolle's book ' The Power Of Now ' is a wonderful work. He has explained lucidly many knotty points in its pages.
