Church of England Halloween Propaganda
Original post: Paul Wyrd
Hi all
I wish to share a link that I believe will be of interest to many:

The Church of England are attempting to stop shops from selling halloween merchandise and thereby stop this ancient festival.
There is a link at the bottom to add your name to the petition if anyone wishes.
Happy Samhain!

In Australia Halloween is rare, hardly anyone dresses up and I've never had anyone knock on my door asking for junk food.... It was never spoken about growing up either.
But today with AU being influenced by the US, we are starting to have a few halloween items and advertisements.
At the end of the day I can gaurantee that 99% of people here have no knowledge of what halloween is supposed to be about, the businesses and government dont really mind either as long as the money continues to come in.
Halloween to the majority is a day of dress ups, eating junk food and trying to scare people. Removing it I would see as a good thing, as you get older most people will grow out of it anyway, like sitting on santas lap.
Bring back the traditional meaning, bring back the traditional beliefs... That should be the true pagan festival you should worry about being banned... Not a bunch of children dressing up like gremlins and fairies wanting some chocolate.... It might even help with the obesity epidemic lol

To be perfectly honest... I prefer the modern Halloween. How can one not like an extra excuse to run around scarring people, extorting candy from strangers and neighbors alike, getting to break down all the barriers of society through the glee of creative anonymity. It's just glorious, and even once you're too old to run around begging for candy (assuming you don't have younger relatives) it becomes an excuse to run around all the same, but with less..... well, more candy, and booze!
As always though, as per the topic of the attempted ban... Money always trumps religious tyranny, as long as there is money to go around... If everyone becomes too poor to buy candy, well, that will be the day the church regains such power.

I enjoy the children coming to the door. In this condo community...it's pretty safe. By 8:30P....even the last stragglers have gone home. Sometimes I leave a basket of goodies on the front porch...with my decorations and lit pumpkins and a little ghost that screeches. I generally...put out fruit bars, fruit leather rollups, and tootsie pops. I love tootsie pops...so always have those...lol.
Life is an Adventure, there's something new around every corner.

I looked at the link to the COE's Arguement. I can't choose a side. What I will say is that I have always liked Holloween (and Tootsie Pops). Being from the US, it is a day of fun and widely excepted. It's a good idea to have a bowl of Snickers Bars or Reece's Peanut Butter Cups for any Little Goblins or Witches that come knocking. Truth be Told... I don't like going against the church... but Levity is the opposite of Gravity and the Graveness or the Grave is what the COE is looking to protect against. Little Kids being happy...Levity. That's some powerful magic. God Bless ya, but you better have a Jack O' Lantern Carved or I will come Knockin. Happy Sam Hain.... Holloween... all.

The COA needs to not take themselves so seriously. Is Holloween a day of fun and candy, originating with the imps and cobalts of Germany who are going to Play a Trick on you if you don't leave them a Treat? I would hope so. What are they fearing? Why do they attack? I think it is fear of something older and more timely (does that make sense?) than themselves. You are right TradFam.. there attacks don't make sense and are "just plain wrong".
Curious... SHAAM I just recalled a commercial from when I was a kid. 'Do you know how many licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Better ask the Owl, He'll know!" Did it take me that long to get that joke?

I like the sacrifice children to the Gods on halloween, so I agree with the church, its a pretty dangerous holiday for children. On a more serious note: St Patrick should have never set foot in Ireland. The twisted religion he brought, corrupted the minds of the people in my country. We should change back to Paganism.
