Immortality What If It Worked

This is a tread for those of you who are into life extension, transhumanism and searching for immortality.

This is something I have been thinking a bit about lately. What will I do if the search for immortality bear fruit. What would you do? By this I am meaning there is some publicly recognized research on life extension and ending aging. And it would be wonderful if this was available to all. But for many of us seeking this we put our faith in fringe methods, diets and programs that few have really heard about or even Spiritual methods. So what would you do if it worked, if your aging stopped but this was not a common thing in society at large?

What would you do when you still look 30 but your passport and driver's license say 107, what sort of problems could you get into by in effect having made yourself different. Would you continue holding your head high and standing by who you where, or would you have your name changed and false papers made to avoid the problem.

And also how do you think society at large would react to a unaging person in their mids? Would jealousy or a opinion that is was against nature make people hostile towards you? Would there be thousands at your doorstep begging you to teach them your secrets? Or would people just accept it, after all who do not want to stay young, just look at how many use platic surgery and the like. Would people try to experiment on you? Or just leave you alone?

Also do you think there might be people who have made it, have made them self unaging or at least slowed their aging allot who have changed identities or gone underground or at least keep to them self to avoid the media and the hysteria who is sure to follow their success. I must admit that the possibility that people have made it before me but are just not talking about it is one of the things that keep my hope up at times when I am thinking: what the hell are you doing Anja, you are living in the clouds, no one have manages to become immortal so how can you think you can do it?

So what do you think, what would happen if it worked?

I think it would be hard to notice an unaging person unless you've lived with that person for let's say at least 5 to 10 years. Traveling often would be a solution, I believe.
If you would reach let's say 100 years old and still look 30 it will become incredibly hard to keep it secret as, like you said, official documents would betray your inability to age physically.
In order to not be detected, you would have to go down the criminal path with forged documents and making sure no one is never able to find any documents relating to your birth.
It would be hard, but doable if you're organized enough, I think.

And if an unaging person did not do that but lived openly as what he or she was, what do you think the consquenses of that would be?

That more and more people would want to (and eventually might) get to know how it is possible.

Should the inability to age be largely spread amongst the world, I think it would drastically decrease the amount of deaths but I cannot say for certain if it would really change much globally, as people could still die the way they always have, by accidents, murders, ...
I guess that it would slowly increase the world population but at what scale no one can tell.

However it could also not be all that drastic and that person might live centuries as a celebrity of the world, envied by many because no one seems to be capable of using his/her method.

I conclude that one can only make assumptions until such a thing actually happens.

I do not know about population growth, if woman had a 1000 years of healthy fertility and not 35 or so, chances are they would wait far longer to have children.

as you should know life isn't eternal. and death is a part of it. it's quite dangerous to think about preventing death's coming because probably to avoid dying you have to die first, I'll try to explane myself better... to interrupt the endless circle of life you should go out of it and end life so you would become a spirit-ghoul-vampire-demonlike creature or something on that sphere since there is nothing in white magic that allows even to extend the lifespan. so at the best you would become damned in life as in death, in the worst you would be an eternally living slave for some overpowerful demon. the spirit outlives the body, this is demonstrated by the art of evocation and necromancy so why would you extend your life in a world of desolation and suffering when you know that if you try to live it at it's best you will have a happy eternal life after your mortal lifespan?

if you are searching for more answers I think that mortal beings like us can't give you anything that would interest you, so I suggest you to get some chalk study a whole lot of books and try to invoke Baphometh. he/she/it whatever is probably the most ancient god of knowledge (not a demon like christians think) and if you manage to invoke him and make up his mind that is reasonable to speak with you (in any case stay inside your circle) he could be willing to tell you anything you wanted to know.
I personally met him in a ritual, the problem was I wasn't calling for him. he just shown up at a certain point while I was "walking" in the astral plane and I managed to make him answer some questions, but they were unimportant questions, merely confirms or denies of some of my doubts. but I think he could answer any kind of question if he wants. I just hope I never ever meet him again unexpectedly.

Well Immortality...we are already in a biological sense but not in an actual one.

Extreme Long life...well thats my area of expertise. (not an expert^^)


We dont want to die, well thats normal. So why we die in the first place. Well there are Viruses, age and many other things.

Problem is that our bodies got quite complex. each cell in our body has a very specific role and the way our DNA repairs itself and replicates is not really perfect.

There are many many many factors that cause us to age. But i wont talk about them.
I will talk about ways how to prolong life. (obviously its science fiction)

First we must find a more efficiant way to Repair and replicate our DNA The bacteria "Deinococcus radiodurans" is quite good at this, it has some very neat DNA repair mechanisms and stores usually 4-10 copies of its own genome. This allows DR to survive even 10000gray of Radiation (1 is deadly to humans).

The next thing is our immune system. Our immunesystem is far from perfect. Using Virophages that predate certain malicous bacteria could help us greatly.

Next thing is viral infection. There are many many viruses out there who are Pretty damn smart. Cheating them wont be easy since specially RNA Viruses mutate so often that they might get in by dumb luck. So we need a way that makes our cells unattrative to them.


What it all comes to is genetic maniplation. We are in a age where wonders happen take HIV Meds for example. many contain a molecule that binds itself to the Reverse transcriptase and inhibits viral replication. Thats genius stuff and thats just the beginning.

If the laws on genetic experimentation would not be so tought i suppose the goal of Extreme long life is within our lifespan.
