I am no expert in Santeria. In fact, I don't know all that much. I am an Orisa devotee in the religion of the West African Yoruba people, called Ifa. Santeria is basically the Christianized (synchretized) version of Ifa. I know that if you want to learn it, you cannot just pick up a book or read from the Internet. You must have godparents. A padrino or madrina. Your godparents will support you in every way possible. Learning African Diaspora faiths is harder than it looks. It's not just 'worshipping.' You have to be an ACTIVE participant and be willing to do what your godparents say. If you don't like rules, forget it. It's not called "Regla de Ocha" for no reason. There are taboos as well. God is Olodumare - I cannot describe the vastness of Olodumare and his/her counterparts. Then the Orisa - they are not worshipped as gods. They are guides for our lives and ALIVE forces of nature that work on the behalf of humanity. Ancestor veneration is also extremely important.

I cannot point you to Santeria folks. I have my Babalawo and my Iya (godparents; 'baba' = father 'iya' = mother). I'd point you to them but they are already very busy people. Word of advice - you won't learn anything online and going around and asking people in various forums will get you nowhere. Seek out an elder. Look for a Babalawo online. That is how I found my godparents and I'm very lucky I did. Watch out for people who want A LOT of money. Santeria is expensive for the ceremonies as are other African Diaspora faiths. Be prepared to shell out some fundage. If you go to a Babalawo, request a reading - this varies A LOT in price, but that is where you begin.

Hope this helps.

I don't practice santeria, I aint got no crystal ball. Well, if I had a million dollars, I'd spend it all. If I could find that Heina and that Sancho that she's found, well I'd pop a cap in Sancho and I'd slap her down. What I really wanna know, my baby, what I really want to say I can't define. Well it's love, that I need, oh, but my soul will have to, wait till I get back find Heina of my own. Daddy's gonna love one and all.

What is funny is right before I checked the forums a friend linked me that song...was too much a coincidence not to play on.

Wow as in if you told me you were hanging around your house I would take that to mean you installed monkey bars. [lol]
