sigil work

do i have to destroy the sigils i created before any effect takes place or do i have to wait till after the effects?, what is the most effective way of destroying them?

secondly how do i avoid the lust for results? or when the topic comes to mind how do i go about it?

I haven't studied sigils yet, so I can't comment on whether you should do something special after making it. But trying not to think about something is nearly impossible for our primal brains. You probably already know that the best effects come when you keep your brain and body from interfering with the spell. I.e. cast it, draw it, burn it, bury it, whatever, and "let go" of any desires for it, don't visualize about what you want or what you think may happen, etc., and the effect will be more free in the astral realm to work it's magick.

In the end, it's far easier to think of something else than to fight against what you don't want to think about. When you get that urge, when you can't stand waiting for what will come, how it will come, worries about what you did or didn't do, did wrong, or whatever forms your lust may take, don't fight it. Don't try to ignore them or stop them, simply focus on something else instead. A complex activity that'll take your attention in another direction usually does the trick. Listen to music if you prefer, watch a great movie, do some math or something else which'll make you forget about it or at least draw you away from it for awhile.

If you practice this method often enough, your brain will get the picture after a length of time, and will stop harrying you to lust after the effect as much. Eventually, you'll get to where you can do whatever it is you do, draw a sigil, cast a spell, perform a ritual or whatever, and not even be bothered, afterward. It'll make it easier to stop the lust at will, too, as this that I suggest is just another form of meditation/mental mastery.

I used sigils and still use them sometimes, and dRider's answer is aplying 100% to sigils, and other magical techniques as well. It is pretty much the same for all spell working, whatever the technique you pick in a book or make up by yourself.

Also it is not even necessary to destroy the sigil, as long you can forget its meaning for a moment while being in an altered state and focusing on it, and then letting go, it is likely to work.
If you feel to destroy it though, do it! And use the way you prefer for it as well... burning is good, it sends it in the air... burying is well too, it sends it to the ground... think about what better suits your needs... and what inspires you.
