Near death experience

Post by WildWise14 »

Has anyone ever heard of anyone having a near death experience and it being pagan in nature? That is to say, they met a god or, just a non-Christian version of an NDE (didn't meet Jesus, etc...)?

Dear WildWise14,

It appears the common near-death experience is rather non-denominational. Descriptions of boundless light, pervasive peace and serenity, timelessness, tangible benevolence, etc. However there have been a number of specifically religious near-death experiences that have been recorded...

Some say the oldest recorded (and pagan) near-death experience could be in The Odyssey of Homer, that is if you join with those Homeric critics that believe Odysseus' conversation with the shades of Teiresias, Achilles, Ajax, Agamemnon, etc. in Book XI of Homer's great epic poem was in fact a near-death experience (although I think that is rather unlikely).

At first I didn't want to post but...

I had a pagan NDE. I met a powerful being and he put me in the abyss for 2 minutes. During that time I lost what Dreamways (a guy on nagualforums) call 2 out of 7 of my aura "emanations" to the Great Spirit (which is completely normal for an awakening). At least that's what Dreamways posts what happened to me. I have determined that Dreamways is not playing with a full deck of cards so he might be wrong about this.

It felt very uncomfortable at the time but afterwards I became a seer. Going from a regular magician to a seer is like night turning to day. I recommend it.

Could it be that "God",or whatever, comes to you in your preferred form? Like, whatever YOU believe?

Like that guy on What the Bleep Do We Know movie "I don't know what God is". Since God is a loaded word I just go with the generic phrase "The Great Spirit". Yes I have contacted "The Great Spirit" but anything I *think* I know about it is probably just an outer layer of a giant onion. So did I actually contact The Great Spirit? Maybe, maybe not.

Sorry I could not be more helpful.

If we attribute omnipotence to The One, there is no reason why that would be impossible. Furthermore, if we attribute wisdom to The One, that is perhaps even likely.

I believe very strongly in magic and several gods. I've also come very close to dying four times, the last time seeing my heart stopping for long enough for me to be considered dead. I have never seen nor heard anything holy or otherwise whilst being as good as dead, just had the world narrow down to a small focal point - sort of like extreme tunnel vision. It wasnt painful or scary, it was just like everything switching off and going away. Therefore I dont think that your mind necessarily adopts whatever you believe in, otherwise I would have experienced something much different. Nice theory though.

A near death experience is caused by a rare chemical in the brain release because the mind cannot at least instantly understand its own death as it begins to shut off (as being a near death experience obviously reversable) It can actually be synthesized and give someone a near death experience at anytime, just not something modern science wants to mess around with, but it is there.

Actually Akimbo, they've done studies that have shown that DMT isn't a chemical released by the brain. It's been quite awhile since I read the article, wish I could find and link it. As far as near death experiences, it's still one of the things that science can't fully explain. A friend of mine had a major heart attack on December 17th, she said after her heart stopped she remembered everything. She said she was pulled from her body and was able to see everything going on in the hospital room. I think it's gonna be awhile until we can logically explain death, OBE's, and NDE's. It's tricky stuff.
