Results from my first Tarot reading, input/advice?

Post by Rin »

I pondered it for a while, then decided to post my results, divination is very new to me and what did I sign up on this board for, if not to receive advice?

Anyway, I asked "what the outcome would be if I were to continue my current path of magical and spiritual study?"

I used the 'split hexagram' method in '11 Lessons in Modern Magic' by Donald Kraig.

Bear in mind I'm no expert on tarot or divination, and I was only working out of one book (albeit a well recommended one). This is my first time attempting anything of the sort, so any advice or constructive criticism is welcome :)

I meditated for 5 minutes, said a quick prayer over the cards as I shuffled them asking the Divine for guidance, then I laid the cards out like so:

And had the following results (I'm including the interpretations of different cards to help me summarize it better more than anything, I'm sure you guys already know what's what):

#1 & 2, according to Kraig represent Unknown Spiritual Influences:

1 - Chariot - Triumph, Overcoming Obstacles
2 - Hermit - Caution or Spiritual Advancement

#3 is said to represent spiritual advice:

3 - Magician (R) - Wrong use of skill or willpower, overconfidence or conceit lack of skill

#4 - Subconscious desire

- Hanged Man - Wisdom as a result of self-sacrifice

#5 Conscious Desire

5 - The Sun - Happiness and Contentment

#6 - Practical Advice

6 - The Tower - Ruin, Catastrophy, disruption

#7 - Final Outcome

7 - Fool (R) - Hesitation, Carelessness, trouble from ignoring foolishness.

I interpreted as follows:

- Spiritual fulfillment and magical advancement is possible if I am willing to suffer for it and overcome obstacles, but
- My personal flaws have the potential to trip me up and cause me to falter or stray down the wrong path, and I need to master them if I wish to succeed (these possibly being the aforementioned obstacles). Likewise, I need to be wary of pushing myself too far or trying to achieve too much at once, or of becoming conceited or arrogant in the future.
- If I don't heed this and any other advice from the universe and my subconscious, then folly and failure will result

It made a lot of sense in the context of where my life is at right now :) In fact I was amazed by how relevant the advice was. I can't really go into detail about how it specifically relates to me because I'd end up writing a thesis-length post about my history, personality and the events of the last month since I resumed my spiritual training and you'd all be bored to tears half way through it [tongue2] But any input would be welcome!

Yeah, it looks like a pretty sound interpretation of what you drew. Its good to see that you had such a clear reading on your first try - quite a lot of readings can be much more ambiguous, plus its good to see that youre using a simple method of reading the cards as that always helps. I personally use the Celtic Cross method for the same reason - its simple, no nonsense method of interpretation works best for delivering answers over the more complex styles.

So yeah, Id have read that in much the same way as you did. Just remember that the Tower card is absolute devastation - its the worst card in the deck and usually signifies a complete state of oblivion, so however youre interpreting that card should be done so with a period of complete devastation in mind. Other than that, spot on I reckon.

Yeah I took the tower as a warning of the worst that could happen if I not only stray from my path spiritually but fail to continue to grow and develop as a person.

I'm glad I did the reading, it's advice I needed to hear I think, and I feel like it's smoothed the path ahead of me a bit, I know I've made a lot of progress today keeping that advice in mind.

What's the celtic cross method? Wouldn't mind trying out another technique next time I feel the need to do a reading (though I don't plan on it anytime soon, seems like something that should be done sparingly).

This is the Celtic Cross method - http://www.learntarot.com/ccross.htm Works the best for me, though might not gel with some people I guess.

I can also tell you that The Tower card in Tarot means a very large change in your life in general.´´Chaos, revelation, distruption and eruption´´ are four common words which are used in context to the tower card. The best thing for you is to connect to your deck, essentially find cards that not only appeal to you physically, but ones that also ´´strike a chord in your soul´´ if you will.I´ve been studying Tarot cards ever since I was 10 years old and almost 30 years of work is still not enough to completely understand the system. However I have found Aleister Crowley´s ´´The Tarot of Thoth´´ deck very useful and helpful.
