Has anyone experimented with using binaural beats created by listening to soundwaves which induce changes in one's brainwave frequencies? I just started doing it regularly, and although there haven't been any noticeable effects yet (although I do seem more calm lately), I plan on keeping it up. I'll let you know how it goes, but in the meantime, what have been your experiences?

I bought a "Proteus" mind machine a couple months ago. I do seem to be getting calmer and calmer, but I don't know if this is due to the mind machine or because of the work I've been doing with NLP.

I like to set the machine at 2-4hz and meditate while using a mantra to help clear my mind. (though I have to do this while sitting up, otherwise I fall asleep. ) I've also been using it to help me visualize. I've had pretty good results in the high theta to low alpha wave range. (7-9 hz)

I'd love to hear how your experiments go.

I tried the brainwave generator timed demo, and found that it had helped me study quite a bit. Years of television have warped my mind, and I can't read quite right anymore. I'm going to check out the other links people have posted here, as I hope they're free of charge.

Do I think they work? In a word, yes.

After reading about the Proteus, I am seriously considering the purchase. The website says "Behind your closed eyelids you will see a complex kaleidoscope of color, multidimensional layers of fractals, and a variety of dream-like imagery." It also says it will aid in reaching a "trance and shamanic" state. Have you been successful in achieving states like described? How powerful are the experiences? By the kaleidscope and fractal description, it sounds almost like a psychedelic state.

I have a cd from the same place as Xeper-i-set , I think it is called "Astral Voyages 2". As I have stated in the astral forum, I am having some success with it but not total. I have only been using it for a few weeks though. I am attempting to create a deliberate waking OOBE. When I make attempts without the CD I have been less successful than I am with the CD. It walks you down through levels. Also, I live in the city, so the fact that the CD on my headphones blocks out the sounds of cars, people, etc., is a real plus. The CD contains sounds and suggestions.

I would be interested to hear Xeper-i-set's experiences, or any others. Also, I would be interested Mmothra, to see if you know if the Monroe institute stuff is superior to other CD's. I looked at the Monroe website but did not purchase anything.

I have used a program called, "Brainwave Generator" before. I downloaded a crack for it online, as I grew fond of it.

I've had varied results, I don't really use it anymore but when I did I used alot of different presets. I remember one preset I used was suppose to aid in having very vivid and exciting dreams, and when I used it and fell asleep to it I did have a very vivid dream. Also it's aided in a few other things.

I've also tried some Hemi-Sync, although not enough to really see if I get results from it.

The kaleidescope imagery is fairly impressive after about an hour of use. At first you see different patterns, but it takes around an hour before they really come to life. It's difficult to describe; the textures and patterns become very detailed after a while.

I have poor visualization skills, which is one of the main reasons why I purchased the proteus. Maybe someone with better visualization skills will become engrossed in the visualizations quicker than an hour, I don't know.

It's been a very useful tool for meditation. I have a difficult time "quieting" my internal dialog, and the proteus--in combination with a mantra--has given excellent results.

The deep meditation program that it comes with is pretty good, but I'd suggest making your own. Some of the programs jump around to different frequencies a little too fast, in my opinion. Making your own programs is fun, but it takes a lot of experimenting and patience. I keep my programs pretty simple; I've had the best results that way--usually I just have the program take me gradually to the frequency that I'd like, and let it repeat.

If you're expecting a mushroom experience, you'll probably be disappointed. But if you ever make a program that simmulates one, send it my way..

The online place I purchased my proteus from had a 30 day money-back guarantee. I can look that up for ya if you can't find one that guarantees it.

Btw, feel free to msg me and let me know how your experimenting goes. Definitely msg me if you buy the though-stream (I think that's what it's called) that goes with it. The thought stream is a bio-feedback device that interfaces with the proteus. Basically, it's supposed to control the proteus and has it try different methods at getting you at the different states that you'd like to be at. I think that's a great idea. I plan on getting one in the future, but for right now the proteus is working just fine by itself.

Peronsally, I've had limited success with the program and I suggest others to at least give it a two week trial period!

dont forget the sister application called flasher which works on the visual senses.
i havent used it because im a mac user and noone has ported it yet.
as far as brainwave entrainment, i get better results by keeping th evolume low( almost unaudible) while tweaking the eq of whatever player im using. even though you dont hear it as well as if the volume were higher, its still hitting your ears/brain. it tends to work better if you are preocupied with something else. dont make the mistake of saving it into a .wav file, it not a stereo format.

you need headphones (which is easiest) or a speaker set up which you have one speaker pointed directly in one ear and the other directly in the other. if you use speakers the trouble is keeping the volume and acoustics so that each ear can only hear from the speaker on that side without any sound from the other. can be alot of trouble.

(Unless you are in an anechoic chamber with a piece of sound proof material running directly through the center of your skull, seperating the sound of one speaker from corelating with the other while you are sitting PERFECTLY inbetween the two and have them in complete phase)...

MP3 encodings will also not work due to the fact that even the highest bitrate will degrade the tone in a way which will add noise and small phase problems to it due to the fact that it is not lossless compression. Allmost all these comercially avalible cd's are rubbish because they do not use pure tones. In order for this to be as effective as possible you should use a set PURE sine waves set with a slight difference on each chanel so the the mathematical phase difference becomes the ammount of Hz you are looking to use for entrainment. Pure sine waves can be generated in any range you desire using any major audio editor program (Sound Forge, WaveLab, Adobe Audition, Peak...) I'm sure there are some free ones out there that will do it also.

I suggest you start by finding the frequency that resonates best with YOUR eardrum, from there you can offset one of the channels to make the binaural frequency you desire. I feel you should use high quality headphones with as flat a frequency responce as you can find/afford. THe layering of multiple frequencies and "combinations" seems dubious to me as it complicates the process... the only exception I have seen is the phase corelated blending method used by the Monroe Institute.

Sorry to piss on the parade of anyone who thought they were going to get results from simply listening to a cd or psychedelic winamp program through hi-fi speakers or non noise canceling $10 headphones but as with magic, life and blah blah etc etc... you'll only get out what you put in.

i know this is rather an old thread, but i think it deserves resurrection.

for a very long time, i have been totally incapable of meditation, or even relaxation. i am considering using software or cds to try to overcome my difficulties.

i expect there must have been considerable development in the time since the last post, so i would like to know if anyone has any suggestions or recommendation.

i really am far far from being able to achieve any kind of relaxed state, even listening to a yoga nidra cd, so i dont know if anything will work. perhaps one needs to have some ability to benefit from these programs?

all help and advice is much appreciated.

ive tried similar stuff before, but hasnt achieved anything for me. i need some industrial strength brainwashing program or something!

what is interesting with the brainwave voyages stuff is that it uses binaurial beats. the idea is that you put frequency A into one ear and frequency B into the other ear and the result is frequency |A-B| . this supposedly results in resonance in your mind, so you can get your brain into a delatwave state.

i think ordinarily achieving a relaxed state of mind or a magical mind would not be so difficult. it is only due to personal circumstances that i am totally useless now.

If it's really as much of a problem as you say it is, learn a mantra for meditation and repeat it over and over out loud until you start hearing it in your head as well. Works for me!

that used to work for me... i dont know why, but i cant even pray anymore... i just cannot seem to clear my head. emotions get the better of me. its so bad, im thinking of trying hypnosis. i need brainwashing!

I've used binaural beats stuff a bit. A couple of different systems (just the trials). I like them. The results kind of vary, though. I used them, ususally, to help me meditate/see stuff. It seemed to work better at first, but...after a while I think I get too used to the sounds and they don't work as well for me. There was also this one (which didn't always work, but that was probably my fault atleast part of the time) which was supposed to put you to sleep. That was pretty great. You would put it on and it would run for I think a half an hour and before the time was up, you were asleep. Awesome!

I've gotta say, though. ...the program I used first, they had a test thing for the audio when you were setting up the program and....this thing came on and I could hardly move.

Personally I think Idoser is way too expensive.. I would torrent it somewhere like I did. I ended up getting all the current doses for free.. From the website I probably would have payed $200.

Ummm, trying to remember which ones I liked.. Black Sunshine, Hand Of God, Marijuana, Sleeping Angel, and I think Cocaine seemed to work the best for me. These were the ones I noticed effects from, other doses were touch and go.. Guessing it might be different for you though. May not react the same way I did.

I only ever tried listening to any kind of binaural beats when I've been super stoned, so no useful data to contribute in that regard.

I know that d-rug tolerance is a very real thing in most cases. In a lot of people's cases though it seems almost like they have overloaded any sense of feeling which exists inside of them and they tend not to be affected noticeably; even by 12 blotters, 7 mdma's and several lines of ketamine (or several family deaths, an abortion and a suicide for that matter ). I know people who could stand up and go work an ordinary day job. With a facking shmile on their face as well...

I don't have anything to really contribute with regards to these kinds of cross tolerances, but it does strike me as something that would provide very very useful info in the fields of drug-humie-brain (ethnobotanical?) research.
