Fleur de Lys...Ancient Babylonian?

Post by Occultess »

Not exactly sure this is the right spot for this, but....

Is it just me, or is that a Fleur de Lys on top if his turbin?

I'm not sure, but I think that fella's actually Sumerian, not Babylonian [Enlil, maybe? I'm guessin'!]; and, I believe current academic concensus is that the thing on the top of his crown is a Dingus kind of like the little stem-thingy you find on a beret, or possibly like the pompoms we put on our touques hereabouts in the winter-time, eh! [eek] [grin2]
I agree that it kind of resembles the top half of a fleur de lis, but that's about as far as I'd be willing to go with that.

I was going to say Sumerian, but I looked at the title of the picture (don't know if it was mine or from the site I got it from) but it said, Babylonian, so I figured I'd say what it said.

Who knows, maybe it holds the turbin together.

I've never seen a sumerian with that sort of crown/hat/whatever that is on his head. Every sumerian type image I've seen has not had a cylinder type hat on his head but every babylonian image I've seen usually does, including females.

If you search for sumerian kings and what not on google or whatever search engine, none of them wear a hat in that fashion. But I am not an expert on the subject and I don't claim to be so I could be wrong.
