its been awhile since ive been on here..
anyways a friend of mine stumbled on to a possessed/cursed object, a ring actually. just wondering what some of your suggestions are to do with it, i know there will be a lot of the purification sort but im also curious what other uses there are, even though i dont walk the darker paths.

Wow! That's quite a naughty thing for a ring to do... It'd be great for pranks I'd imagine, though other practical uses I can't imagine. I haven't been at this magic business for terribly long though. Hope someone else has some sort of better answers for you...

lol yeah a good prank but after a while it could very well get deadly.. and it seems a bit too powerful to give to enemies as a distraction or something. thought about using my Knife to absorb its energy but im not quite sure if that would be beneficial.
By the way, just throwing this out there if it sparks any ideas, my Magic is a combination of sigils and psionics. i have the ability to take a certain attribute of lets say, my snake and add it to an object, charging it and creating a construct that sheds its "skin" and renews its self every so often. after a while i give said construct enough power to be considered a soul with personal thought and actions. I suppose you could call me a Creation Magician.

What exactly do you mean when you say it lit her hair on fire? Did fire literally come out of the ring and alight her hair when she put the ring on, or did she just happen to let her hair dangle over a candle while she was wearing it?
Because while the former sounds like a hell of a curse, the latter just sounds like bad luck, unless there's been a whole string of similar incidents.

She said it happened as she was waking up, so no candles. Oh and there was female laughter when it happened. Also we have recently gotten into a fight, she said it was taunting her and that she was seeing me out of the corner of her eye. ill post more details when i talk to her this afternoon. (about 10 hours from now)
it all seems a little too powerful for a curse and may be a fowl spirit tethered to it but im not sure yet, ill have the ring later today.

anyways i've learned a few things. so the ring manifests itself as a girl, you know the cliche pale white girl with black hair dark eyes and red lips. so that makes it look more like a possessed object. side note i gave her a protection bag and it seems to work, she also saw her after i had the ring.
BUT on the other side of that it was very hard for her to give it to me and the guy also gave her friend a mirror that was similar, less potent but still pretty nasty. two points for cursed object.

Personally I'd follow the Baggins school of thought when it comes to the disposal of cursed rings. Find a big pit of lava and throw that mofo in! Failing any pits of lava, deep holes, rivers, or oceans will serve.

From my experience, the problem with a spirit like that (and it's fair to assume it's a spirit bound to the ring) is you can unbind it from the ring- but then it runs around free, or you could banish it (lesser banishing ritual of the pentagram) but then you're just letting it roam free somewhere else to harm other people and that's not what the responsible magician does. What I would suggest is go with the baggins school of thought, destroy the ring destroy the spirit.
From what I see, it's an aggressive spirit but have you tried reasoning with it, create a channel to talk to it while protecting yourself at the same time. Another possible solution while keeping the ring is keeping it immersed in holy water (not necessarily christian but blessed how appropriate) because as you know water has the ability to dissipate energy as well as store it by charging it with that intention. Of course even when immersed in water keep it completely sealed and surrounded by a magickal/protective circle.
But what I would do personally is destroy the ring or take it to a magician that can take it on and permanently banish it.

Some times destorying that object can destory the spirit tied to it.
You need to look for blessings, and purification rather than binding or destruction spells.
