Also, some method of alerting lurkers when other people are in the channel, talking? I've been idling there for the last day or so when I'm on my comp, but unless I check the window every few minutes I'm liable to miss anyone who drops by, says a word or two, gets no response and bails. Not sure if that's possible or not, but it would result in more people hanging out there while doing other things online, I think.

Needs a bot in the channel to accomplish this, what kind of info do you want it to show? Who's on now and.. if anything has been said in the past 5 minutes kinda thing?
It's quite doable, I actually have an IRC bot I wrote that'll talk to a mysql database, so, half the job's done there
