What, in your opinion, are the best books/media available on Sumerian & Persian culture?

The Sumerians and the Persians (in their various manifestations thru time) are far removed from each other. Maybe start with a general book on Near Eastern history. After you finish it, look in the bibliography and see if there are any titles that interest you.

I don't know a great deal about them myself since neither are my main areas of interest. But, I read a lot of history of the ancient world and years ago I put together a handy outline to help me keep everything in context. You might find it useful as well although it begins after the Sumerians (since it is more focused on Classical &n Biblical history but the Persians are there as well).
