The Little People
THE LITTLE PEOPLE
(popular synonyms: Fearies, Fairies, Fey, Wee Folk)
This is a thread dedicated to the serious discussion of the "Little People", found in cultures around the world, from Ireland to the Americas.
Below is a summary of what I could find on such creatures (aside from fluffery). Please refute what you feel is fiction, or add what you know to this thread.
Fearies are found most abundantly in European Folklore. Some sources relate the "fey" to the Tuatha De Danan. The Little People is also found in Native American mythology. Here is a list of various tribes with their corresponding "little people" legends:
Nimerigar - Shoshone
Yunwi Tsundi - Cherokee
Nunnupi - Comanche
Nirumbee or Awwakkulé - Crow
Geow-lud-mo-sis-ing
Memegwesi/Memegawensi/Memengweshii/Pa'iins - Anishinaabe
Mannegishi - Cree
Ishigaq - Inuit
Pukwudgie - Wampanoag
(See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_peo ... thology%29)
There are some major similarities in the belief of the "little people" that are the same among various cultures. A few of them are :
Little People sometimes would trade one of their infants for a human baby of similar age.
Certain types of little people are mischievous, playing tricks on people.
Eerie music can be heard in the woods, attributed to the little people.
In most cultures, their height is anywhere from a few inches tall to a couple feet. But some legends I have stumbled upon say that they are similar to humans in heigth and appearance.
From what I have learned from books and internet articles, fearies can be seen only when they want you to see them. But sometimes, you can see them without their consent.
In an old Celtic mythology book I once read, I found a tale of a human woman who was asked by a fearie mother to nurse her son. The fearie gave the woman a type of potion, to allow her to see the fearies at all times. Years later, after the nursing had been long finished, the woman saw the fearie mother one day, and extended her hand to greet her. The fearie was surprised, asking "How can you see me?" to which the woman replied "With both my eyes". Then the fearie took away the gift of "fearie-sight" from the woman.
Please share your knowledge on the "Little People". Here are some questions I am hoping to see answered (these are also some popular questions asked by others interested in such things) :
How do you contact a fearie?
What do they look like?
Do they really live in nature?
Are they on the astral plane?
How can they affect my life?
Can you really see them?
Thanks

What if one would say: All just imagination? Powerful imagination, but still imagination?

Re: The Little People
How could this be possible? Were talking about several different cultures of the ancient world, on separate continents, who each have strikingly similar beliefs about the little people. Also, what about the first hand experiences of people today, pagan and not, who encounter these creatures through meditation, accident, and astral projection?Ramscha wrote:What if one would say: All just imagination? No Offense, I have a hard time believing in these kind of things also. [rofl]

Re: The Little People
William Mistele is into that sort of stuff. He gained the power to contact such entities by using Franz Bardon's teachings. Now he scouts for incarnate mermaids and hangs out with them as his beach home. At least, I think it's a beast home.
I've also read that tattwa scrying is a direct way to get in contact with these entities.
Why shouldn't they be imaginary? That doesn't make them any less real (or in the case of mermaids, less sexy).

Thats the point for me [wink]Why shouldn't they be imaginary? That doesn't make them any less real (or in the case of mermaids, less sexy).
It is just that I wanted to mention the anima model besides the spiritism model.
That does not exclude the imagination [happy]who encounter these creatures through meditation, accident, and astral projection?
However, the little people are a fascinating born for folklore and mythology. A friend of mine in Ireland told me that they still build their street around sacred stones and trees and don´t move them [pray]
I find that fascinating

Is that some how less reasonable than the existence if other forms of spirits?DawningSun777 wrote:Are we discussing actual, existing fairies?

No it is not (if you see my double sided point).Bara Mortath wrote:Is that some how less reasonable than the existence if other forms of spirits?DawningSun777 wrote:Are we discussing actual, existing fairies?
