Can some one enlighten me on this subject please? I hear what most people say that their evil, Tricky, They can control the weather, you can use them for their power. Djinn can be invoked as well grant wishes some thing along those lines. I also heard that we all have a Djinn but we must be willing to communicate with it. They hide their real names. If we where to find their real name we would be able to posses the Djinn's abilities.

I don't know how accurate this is as I don't know much about the Djinn, myself but I found this to make some sense to me. It's not much, but for those of us who don't know, I suppose it's a good start.

In Islamic mythology, the Djinn are fiery spirits, one of which was Iblis. From the Arabic junna, "angry, possessed." The Jinn pre-existed in middle eastern folklore before Islam, and were incorporated into the religion. The djinn are creatures who lived on earth before man; they were made up of 'smokeless fire' whereas men were made from earth.

Djinn are often disruptive, but can sometimes be of service to mankind. The Djinn shunned daylight and were responsible for disease and insanity. Unlike other devilish creatures, however, the Djinn are creatures of free will, even having a chance at redemption through Islam. The three classes of Djinn are:

Ghul, mishchievous shape-shifting spirits associated with graveyards. "Ghul" is the origin of the English word "ghoul."
Sila, Djinn who can appear in any form
Ifrit, evil spirits.
In Middle Eastern magical practice, Djinn are invoked much like the spirits of the Goetia in Western magick.

The word "genie" is a corruption of Djinn. Both 'Djinn' and 'Genius' probably share a common root. Djinn are said to avoid salt and steel, and to be afraid of the sound of singing.

I all ways heard that their Demonic. I think people shouldn't label things just because they met a couple doesn't make them Demonic.

Demons are only all bad in the Judeo-Christian universe. It comes from the Greek word daemon which could be either good, bad or indifferent spirits. So just because people use the word demonic doesn't mean that the spirits are necessarily evil. :evil:

There are differen't types of Djinn, as they are of free will similar to that of humans, so they can be malevolent, benevolent or neutral. If your looking for Pre-islamic Djinn try looking into arabian mythology, if you want the more Islamic point of view then study that side.
