So a few weeks ago I was checking out the /x/ section on 4chan (yeah, i know it's not a reliable source) and I read a post that talked about how some occultists drink their pee. Upon further research, I found that it's actually called "urine therapy" and it's supposed to decalcify the pineal gland. Other people claim that it cures all diseases.
So my question is this: Is there any legitimacy to this, or is this some kind of worldwide joke that I seem to have been left out of? Also what is decalcifying?
Any experiences/advice on the topic would be greatly appreciated! [happy]

Drinking Pee...?
A man who is doing his True Will has the inertia of the Universe to assist him.

Re: Drinking Pee...?
As far as I know from my biochemical lessons there was never a proof for most of the claims made by the practitioners of this therapy. It is true that its use is rather old, several thousand years as far as I recall. However I doubt that many of those claims (like the anti-cancer hypotheses) are true since the built concepts are mostly complete bullshit. So as long as there is no real legitimate experimental proof I would be careful with those therapy claims to drink that stuff. There is most likely a reason why this stuff leaves our body, don't you think?
What is actually true about urin as far as I know is its use as a potent wound desinfectend which was often used during times of war when other medicine was not available. What is also true is that urine is used to synthesize material for biomedical industry like sexual hormones synthesis or the use of carbamides/urea in ointments.
However, I doubt that it influences the pineal gland in any way as it is mostly stimulated by signals from the hypothalamus causes by light impulses sent from the retina.
There are lots and lots of reports about how good this stuff allegedly works and that monks in tibet high in the mountains only live with that kind of therapy and live a long and healthy life. But what they actually forget to mention is that their life circumstances are a lot different from ours, strarting with daily work, nutrition and so on. Fairy tales sound good as long as you focuse only on one point and don't mention others (advertisement is not that different from propaganda). There is of course a broad medical use of urea synthesized from urine but what many alternativ "healers" claim as beeing a wondermedicine simply lacks any kind of evidence.
I made a brief search in one of the best online libraries for clinical issues and trials, but so far I didn't find anything which supports those drinking-urine-theories.

Just my 2 cents

There is a yoga that involves that but I'll leave it for those who want to do the research themselves.

Drinking you own pee and recycling fluids has benefits only if you eat healthy, organic food, aren't on ANY drugs (including tobacco and pharmaceuticals), and are free of major illness. If you are a vegetarian, the results will be more profound. The monks in Tibet don't consume their urine in isolation. Their entire lifestyle is centered around a wholesome balance. Remember that urine is largely waste material. Your kidneys recycle most of what is disgarded by the body as a normal part of renal function. You would be better served if you drank more water, focused on correct breathing techniques and took steps to improve your diet. If you want a long and healthy life, take up Tai Chi.
