is it safe to dive straight into enochian magic

Hi,

I think if you were a member of the Golden Dawn or similar organisation, it would probably a lot of time and dedication to work through the grades before you would get to the point of contacting Enochian angels - am I correct in this? - so I was wondering, if people who haven't gone through this sort of process or have not much of a background in hermetic or ritual magic, and pick up a book on Enochian magic and try to contact these entities often cause serious problems for themselves by doing so, or if it normally works out alright if they carefully follow the directions in the book?

No, one shouldn't dive straight in. it is a potent system, and very complex. Besides this, without the proper foundation of practice I am not sure what you would "do". One does not simply "contact" entities for the thrill of it. You need a purpose, and the GD employed this in a system with a specific goal (mainly of course assisting them with their True Wills), once they were Adepts.

Of course there are those who use the Enochian system outside the confines of the GD or related systems, and that is up to them. However, even these people usually have a strong foundation of practical knowledge and experience. Remember, "directions" in a book, do not entail all the experience, and background knowledge required for dealing with evocations etc., nor does it give you a good reason.

Hello Beero,

I think it is a good goal to want to work with the Enochain system. My advise to you is that you first begin by building a solid intellectual foundation and a basic skill set.

You construct an intellectual foundation by beginning to study this system. Lon Milo Duquette is an established and successful magician who uses this system so you might want to being with studying his work. Read and digest whatever you can get your hands on. As you're investing all of this time and effort into it, I would suggest you also reach out in prayer or meditation to some higher positive force and ask to be guided to find the resources you require.

As to a basic skill set, I recommend learning some of the basic energy work systems taught by Robert Bruce and also working with self-hypnosis to enter into a trance state. There are good videos on this all over YouTube and also try working with the Alpha and Delta binaural beats to aid in entering these states.

If you progress step-by-step, are a grounded and centered person, then you can do it and you do not have to rely on any organization.

thanks for your replies. I'd got enochian skrying tarot (which is described as being suitable for any level) and am working though the exercises, but I'd started wondering if it might be too advanced. I might put it on the back burner for the moment, and try to do a bit more background reading. I notice there are several books on enochian available on my scribd subscription - I'll have to read through some of those
