Druidic Initiation

Post by alejandrocerv »

I recently had an experience which confirmed my feelings that magic is very real in this world, and that there is a language of the trees. After spending some time with some great medicine, and sitting in a circle of many magical people all on their own journeys for almost three days, I realized that I'm very interested in things like the Red Road and druidry.

Are there any resources for connecting with local druids or self-initiation?

This here is a very good source:
http://www.amazon.de/Cauldron-Gods-Manu ... 186992861X

I just finished reading it myself a months ago.

Regarding druidism:
We know in fact very little about the former "druids" and the sources we have are mostly written by roman or greek authors who very rarely where in celtic territory themselves or just copied from others like for example caesar. Same with the guys who wrote about the druids and celtic bards centuries after they where gone...

Also, be careful because a druid was not the same everywhere. As far as I know "druids" as a named faction where located on the british islands and gallia but they were never mentioned in any other celtic territory which where conquered. Though there most likely where also people there who performed the same deeds as named druids but without being called one. Also, a british druid is not the same as a gallic druid in regards to their position and duties. Also there supposedly are differences between the celtic tribes on the main continent. Don't forget that "THE Celts" never existed, it is a term used for a whole bunch of people reaching from Iberia over Albion and Alba down to Anatolia and the borders to other groups are rather blurry as well.

Just a small summery about the semantics regarding the term "druid".

I really recommend you the book of Jan Fries I mentioned above, his source analysis is brilliant work and with some secondary literature really nice groundwork.

This is something I can confirm,no Druids here in Scotland, though people tend to think they were Pan Celtic, mostly through the continuance of such misinformation as provided by the likes of Robert Graves,Gerald Gardner and others of that ilk.

I also second what Ramscha says about Jan Fries. [thumbup]

There are however groups of modern self titled Druids and those who base their beliefs on what they can derive from what information there is,perhaps you might like to check them out?

You might find one of these to be of interest to you.

I also know that Ross Nichols and Emma Restall Orr have written extensively on Druidry,as they see it.

I hope some of this is useful. [thumbup]
