Question about Intent in spellwork

Post by Romez »

What I have been having a problem with is intent in spells, how would you really define intent in spellwork, and how would one practice it? any suggestions?
Thank you very much for your time

Would the place for this question be better on the witchcraft forums or is it correcting posting here?

Sorry can't really help with this question only to say that here seems to be the right place for it at least.I'd recommend specifying your branch of magic, since you mention witchcraft I'm going to assume some form of Wicca ? This may help you get a more appropriate answer. Details are key in asking a question in my opinion.

This is a valuable question. Intent involves a specific focus of the will and consciousness toward a specific purpose, goal, objective or outcome. Will and intent are two different things (depending on who you ask, of course). "Will" is the conscious force dynamic of the spirit being that exists deeper than the ego or "Monkey Mind" as described by Mantak Chia. The monkey mind is the cognitive machine that usually runs a monologue interpolating and extrapolating our experience into context. Intent is the focusing of the ego cognito-emotional complex) toward achieving some end. It may be a function of your will, or it may just be some mechanical operation of the cognitive mind depending on how developed you are. Now how to use it properly is the next question one may ask and this is much more difficult because there are many paths to the top of the mountain. Some slower and more punishing than others. You will encounter many salesmen here wanting you to think and feel as they do. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your answer, and in your opinion how would one train the will and the intent in that case?

If you don't understand something as basic as volition, you should focus on basic development and personal training instead of trying to cast spells. It may seem harsh of me to say that, but it's true. A football player doesn't go out on the field if he doesn't know how to run, because he won't get very far. Likewise, if you don't train yourself properly than spells aren't going to do you much good. You could know the most powerful spell in the universe and not be able to use it.

To train your mind, meditate. Mental Relaxation and Concentration are particularly important. To get a feel for how to use volition after that, train your Awareness, so that you become more sensitive to your mental faculties and everything else overall.

For now, try this:

Sit back in your seat for a moment. Yes, right now. Rest your hands on your lap and relax, clearing your head as much as you can. Focus on how your right arm feels, relaxed as you are. Be Aware. Any tension, any itches, the stillness of it.

Now, raise your arm above your head.

What happened?

You engaged volition, your will power. You intended for your arm to raise above your head, it did, and there's a whole list of reasons why that you can figure out later. Keep meditating to train your mind and thinking about why your arm moved above your head, and eventually you'll figure out what "intent" is by realizing the experience of it.

Problems with intent in spellwork? Are you doing spells for the hell of it or are you doing spells for things that you REALLY want?

Without pure intention spells can go haywire and backfire.

Both manonthepath and shin have given you some really good things to consider, as well.

Intent is what you want.

If you want someone to heal, that is your intent.

If you say with conviction "Oh, I hate him so much and just wish he would die!", that is also intent.

Making sure you know what you want and why you want it before you try to back it with power is a pretty big deal.

There are many ways. In my experience, the best path (for me!!!) is Taiqi. This is something you just can't do over night. research Mantak Chia, Deepak Chopra or Ross Heaven to start. Here are a few works that will be of help. Of course you have to buy them and read them!

As a long time student of various Daoist arts, I strongly advise against anything by Mantak Chia. He's simply not that good a resource, especially for a beginner. More experienced hands can separate the wheat from the chaff, but more often than not it simply isn't worth the effort.

Hello,
Thank you very much for all the answers, I will definitely work on it, and thank you for the exercise, shin, I am actually working on step 1 of franz bardon at the moment, and was just curious about spells as well. I apologize if i asked a question that I should not be contemplating at this time yet.

I disagree. I will not engage in debate, save to say that I have gained much.
