Sigils

Does anyone have a list/book about sigils? Not only for entities, but also for other things (elements, etc...). I read somewhere on this forum about a love sigil. Does that exist?

The practical definition of a sigil is "a magical symbol crafted most often by combining the letters of a magical incantation into a single pictographic image, but any pictographic image that is sufficiently charged with magical power can function as a sufficient sigil."

Spirit sigils are thus usually made out of the spirits name (in most of what I've done, anyway), a numerical or astronomical pattern, or various other ways of combining the letters. But sigils as power symbols can be used in many other ways. A painting can be a sigil, a landscaped garden can be a sigil, a magical looking symbol can be a sigil. A sigil, as a magical power symbol, is what you make it. Since I've discovered my forte is Teutonic stuff, most of the power symbols and verbal incantations that I use are made with the Runes, but I've also used stuff with English roots and ever now and then I just make something up on the spot.

Always remember this: the power comes from the spell caster, not the spell. The spell is just a way to focus the power into the results that are desired. And if the results come out wibley wobley, it's not always the fault of the spell.

If you want to learn how to make your own sigils, taking a tour of Chaos Magic and things like A Beginners Guide to Sigil Craft will be enlightening. Studying the general principles of word magic and things like Incantations will be helpful, too. My current knowledge grew from studies in Chaos, Japanese Kotodama, Kabbalah, and Teutonic Rune Craft. Find your own interests and you'll discover how the pieces work as they fall into place.

And yes, there are various ways to play with love and lust using all sorts of magic, including this way. It isn't wise, but neither is drinking until you black out, and there are people who do that too.

That one made sense to me, as well as Practical Sigil Magick.

Also, I'm not all that experienced or anything, but it is my understanding that sure, a love sigil exists if you make it - but the general advice I've read suggest staying away from such things, perhaps opting instead to try making yourself more open to be loved or something like that. You can help that along and open pathways for that to work: A lot of work to change someone else's mind.

At least that's how I understand things. You might find your reality different.

If you're looking for symbols to satisfy things like elements or planets look up alchemical symbols.

Then make your own sigil out of those.
