Hey all,
I'm currently working out of a book called Planetary Magick by Melita Denning, Osborne Phillips, which contains a complete system of ceremonial magick relating to the 7 classical planets. At the moment I'm working on a ritual related to the moon. The ritual is recommended to be performed on the day and hour of the moon. In another thread I mentioned that doing this doesn't fit into my schedule, and asked whether it would be better to use the hour or the day; it was recommended that I go with the day. I've been performing the ritual once a week, each Monday, and am making steady, albeit slow, progress. Here is my question: I know that if I were performing this ritual every day my progress would speed up significantly. It just seems like once a week is not enough practice. Should I switch to making it a daily ritual, performing it on the hour of the moon each day other that Monday, or is this merely impatience speaking?

Re: Lunar Ritual Question
I'd say a little bit of impatience is starting to overwhelm you.
It should be noted that you do not *need* to use the specific hour and day of the planet you're working with. It just helps.
You can perform the ritual as much and whenever you need to, so long as you remember your intent.
I don't know the particular ritual you're working with, but if you're having problems, I'd actually recommend doing it less.
Instead of doing it every week in the day of the moon, find the next possible time when luna is at it's absolute most influential.
It would be something along the lines of when a full or new moon lands on a monday (also using the hours and minutes of luna), and you would want to make sure all other influences are at their weakest they can be, for the time.
Then, do your ritual once.
The more time and planning you put into when you're going to do the ritual, the better the results. (Since it isn't a custom ritual, no planning goes into *writing* it, which is a huge portion of a lot of successful rituals.)

I think you also misunderstand the nature and influence of the Moon, as well as a misunderstanding of the 'time and day' of the planets in general... If the ritual is one of lunar empowerment, do the ritual when the Moon is between First Quarter and continue until it is Full. Time the ritual to begin with the physical rise of the Moon in the East. This will begin late at night on the First Quarter, but by the Full Moon it will be just after Sunset. This is the 'time and day' of the waxing moon -- which are variable and changing, like the Moon.
If the ritual is one of cleansing, begin on the Third Quarter and continue until the New Moon.
If you want to extend the practice, then do the ritual either from New Moon to Full, or from Full Moon to New.
Or you could do one of each, empowering from the New to Full, and cleansing from the Full to New.
But as much as possible, do the ritual in full view of the Moon. Don't hide from her indoors or beneath clothing. Her light isn't as intense as the Sun's.
I would recommend doing Cleansing rituals before Empowerment...

This is beautiful. Is there any way you could list me with some resources for learning more on the subject of using the Moon, or at the very least, how those timings are set up and associated?
I've never worked too intensely or intimately with the planetary energies, so I'm still budding out in that sense.

Most of what I've learned on the subject is from personal interaction with other occultists.Haelos wrote:This is beautiful. Is there any way you could list me with some resources for learning more on the subject of using the Moon, or at the very least, how those timings are set up and associated?

The planetary 'timings and associations' are set up by Nature, all you need to do is watch closely and contemplate. In my opinion, the tables that set a fixed time and day for when the planetary energies are 'strongest' are completely useless. For one intelligent body to influence another, there must be a link of communication between them. That link is always strongest when there is a direct line, heart to heart. This, IMO, is called Love

With all that being said, I am a big fan of Bepin Behari's works:
Myths & Symbols of Vedic Astrology
Fundamentals of Vedic Astrology
Also, study genuine alchemical texts (especially Paracelsus), the alchemists love talking about the qualities and associations of the planets.
