Is magic a hobby to you? or is it a universal power? High Magick affects all of humanity, Lower Magick affects just the personal sphere. Of course, High Magick takes decades of intense training to master.RoseRed wrote:[lol] [lol] [lol]
Let me know how that works out from you.
I am aware of the difference between high and low magic and I think you may be surprised at what can be accomplished with either.

Umm...what? I think you haven't practiced either too much to make such an assertion with a straight face. Magic is magic. You're getting caught up in an arbitrary dualism that doesn't exist at the level of practice. The Great Gazeofra wrote:Is magic a hobby to you? or is it a universal power? If the only 2 choices are a hobby or a universal power ...

Uhh... huh? I'll second what spiral said, Magick is Magick. Any magick takes time and training to master, the duration it takes is dependent on the person and their affinity towards the practice they choose to undertake. The Great Gazeofra wrote:Is magic a hobby to you? or is it a universal power? While what is considered "Low Magick" is more based upon the more personal route (or micro, if you will), it doesn't preclude that it only can be used for that. Someone with enough talent can make wide-spread effects that the "Higher" magick can do (the macro, if again you will). Likewise, High Magick can be used for the more "personal" aspects that Low magick is more thought to be used for.
However, if you really want to get into it, there are many different pathways of magick. Or rather, there is just magick, and the labels that you decide to place on certain aspects or translations of it.
In the end, it's the relationship between the practitioner and their personal translation of magick which matters.

High and Low magick are pretty stupid distinctions when examined.
Some of the highest magick one can perform make use of low magic techniques.. its usually just used as a useless term to separate folk from ceremonial practices.
Probably came about in the 19th century to distinguish what those 'backwards people in the jungle' did from what the socialites in the west were doing. That said I would not be surprised if it was a little older, but i doubt the term was in use before john dees time at the earliest..
If that was the case it likely was used to distinguish between pure 'angelic' magick and those dirty demon worshippers down in the peasant villages.
Pretty sure this term would be alien to the Goen and people like them.

Exactly! I've said this elsewhere but distinctions between "low" and "high" magic tell you far more about medieval class structures than about the magic itself. These classifications rarely even exist in societies without strict social caste systems. Does a Yanomami shaman practice low or high magic? A Western esotericist would label it "low" since it's practiced by a folk culture through oral tradition using earth materials, but it's also highly ceremonial and takes decades to master. But really, who cares? I dislike terms like "armchair magician", but taking such distinctions seriously is often a sign of someone who isn't practicing. Because once you start practicing it quickly becomes clear they're just different methods for handling the same universal currents.Sypheara wrote:High and Low magick are pretty stupid distinctions when examined.

But to bring this back on topic, yes, doing love magic on specific people is usually inadvisable since success rates are dubious at best (i.e. even if it "works", it works by making the target go bonkers which rarely results in a happy stable relationship.) Not that any of the warnings EVER stopped anyone [twisted]
