Initiates of the Flame

Post by RockDemon »

Recently I came up with a book Initiates of the Flame by Hall, Manly Palmer and it seems to be an interesting read. Did anyone read it ? Any ideas and opinions regarding it ?

I haven't but it sounds like it would be a distillation on a lot of his lectures on comparative religion.

So far I've read his Secret Teachings, Self-Unfoldment by Discipline of Realization, and I do want to follow up Secret Teachings with Lectures on Ancient Philosophy and perhaps Lost Keys of Freemasonry one of these days. What I have done aside from that is listened to most of his lectures available on Youtube at least twice just because there's so much to be gotten from these alone even.

I'm guessing he broached the shared astrotheology, being born again of the spirit, and perhaps even the golden wedding garment at the Supper of the Lamb? Let me know if any of that sounds right.

I haven't started to read it yet. But it's in my list. I'll give feedback as soon as I read it.
Thanks for the reply. I'll listen to some of his lectures.

Just not my taste. If I remember correctly, reading Secret Traditions or whatever it was felt like reading an Illuminati post on a David Icke forum.

If you're referring to Secret Teachings of All Ages, it read more like an encyclopedia than a blog post to me.

I also don't remember anything regarding modern conspiracy theories, just an historical account of certain secret societies without any connection to modern politics.

Maybe I didn't read close enough. Maybe you're referring to something else.

I'm a fan of Secret Teachings of All Ages, its a great piece of reference material. Haven't read anything else by Manly P. Hall, but thats my opinion.

I think the only major criticisms MP Hall might get, aside from the research snafu of citing the gypsies as having come from Egypt and bring the tarot with them (a mistake commonly made at the time) is that he could come off to a lot of people not of the Hermetic or Masonic persuasion as too staunch or conservative for their taste. The later is actually part of why I like him - he really knew what he stood for and put a profound quality of professionalism into both his analysis and research, into his conveyance of the cultural/psychological histories of the ideas presented, the context of the symbol sets employed, and the moral foundation of what these systems stood for.

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong person/text, but the book I read was highly innacurate and read like it was from the occult section of Barnes and Noble.

Or you are talking about the same book and author but the lack of examples has us stuck.

I know, I know. I'm out of town right now though, so I can't look into it.
