When do you know that you can move on to the next step?

Post by Romez »

Hello,
So i have a question regarding the exercises in IIH but I guess it can apply to any manual. In IIH it states, specifically for the first step in the third exercises, when you are able to hold the vacancy of mind for 10 minutes then you can move on to the next step. Well for me, like anyone else, I have my good days and bad days, on the good day I can hold it for 10 minutes but then there are other days when the thoughts are intrusive and its just not possible for me to hold it for 10 minutes without a single image or thought going into my mind. So the question becomes, when do you know you are ready to move on? When you are able to do it once? Or able to do it ever day for a week, for a month, most of the times in a week? This can also apply to other manuals that give you a certain time frame of how long you are supposed to do something, how many times must you do it, before you can be like ok I can move on to the next step now? I can be perfectionist about certain things but I just want to make sure that I have my fundamentals done well and correctly before moving on, after all fundementals are always the secret to any practice.
thank you for your time

If you can do it 7 days in a row that's pretty solid.

If you make it a habit and continue practicing the observation and vacancy throughout the other steps then you may as well move on now.
