What matters here is how the violence is shown. In which circumstances, what is shown before and after the scene in question, what musical accompaniment it has got etc. Then we can judge the overall influence of the scene on the viewer's subconsciousness.
Violent things can be shown both in educational & informative way and in the way that can negatively influence the viewer, which is sometimes purposely done.
In case of "Event Horizon", we can track the bad Hellish purpose in it. For instance, the panties of that woman (part of its color is close to that of the demon that makes people damage their own eyes).
PS: When I have discovered Hellish people who are hiding their bad intentions from the normal ones, they have made a cheat by means of which they have convinced the whole world that there are no Hellish people and I claim nonsense. Now, they are convincing everybody that they did not have any such bad intentions in movies.
