Could end up as an interesting and useful list:
For those of us who have a habit of only doing (practical, affect the macrocosmic world) spells when the you-know-what-hits the fan, the problem of "Lust of Result" will almost certainly result in failure every time. I've come to understand that the best defense against this problem is "faith", practically the most lacking quality in the modern magician due to her inquisitive and doubtful nature. Anyways, I think one way to destroy this problem is to do a lot of practical magic for things you don't care about at all, and can therefore be objective in gauging progress.
So what are some spells you could cast about something you give no s***s about? (and hopefully gauge later, but if not share anyways!)

I completely agree with your comments. I have a list of things that I do on a regular basis, expecting no result:
1. I will pick someone to create a psychic connection with. It can be fun, especially a lover. They tend to read me better and I can read them better.
2. I will send out a spell for chance earnings, e.g., winning a small lottery or office pool
3. I will send energy to a plant -- or take energy from a plant.
4. A ritual for wisdom (can never get too much of that stuff)
5. A ritual to open doors, even though none appear shut
6. A ritual for new business opportunities, even though I don't need any
7. A ritual to make me an even better person
8. A ritual to make me important to higher ranking individuals.
And, the list goes on...

I do agree too. It seems as if the more I trust magick the more I expect the things to come, and this causes failures. I read from Crowley about creating an alter-ego that is triggered when you switch a ring from one finger to another. (Creative fella indeed) I am even thinking of creating one that doesn't believe in magick or in anything outside classical physics. It makes me a bit uneasy though, not sure if my mind is strong enough yet to manage. However it would be very practical. After the ritual you switch and stay grounded for as long as it takes. When it manifests you switch back and you take notes and celebrate :-)
About what to do that you don't care I believe is pretty personal. Do whatever you don't care about. Finding a book about football or recieving a pair of socks from somebody. Visit from unknown individuals wearing concrete colors, reciving a call for an anonymous poll, even finding a penny. (Which then you can escalate until you find BIG bills)
My regards

Thanks guys, this is where I was hoping the list would go. The plants one actually made me remember a couple cool stories about this, where people tested themselves by growing their friends plants "remotely".
Also I love the socks idea, but damnit, now I give a s***. [crazy]
