Meditative trance and magickal trance - the differences
Meditative trance and magickal trance - the differences
Is there any difference between magickal and meditative(meditation) trance ?
P.S. The more I learn about magick, the more I think I don't know anything about it.

Re: Meditative trance and magickal trance - the differences
if i got that right, a trance is a very simple and natural state of being, the state entered when the physical body goes to sleep while the mind stays awake. Very simply, the frequency of brain waves changes in response to the changed level of mental activity. The less mental activity, the deeper the level of trance. There nare 3 states of trance...light, full and deep trance. Now...about meditation...Meditation is the practice of quieting your mind. We meditate when we imagine something that gives us peace or satisfaction. In reality meditation is a state of thoughtless aweareness.

Re: Meditative trance and magickal trance - the differences
There are numerous different types and levels of both trance and meditative states. There is a significant difference between the hypnotic trance and the ecstatic state produced by ritual dance and song, for example. There is also a significant difference between the trances produced by various intoxicating substances (from enchanted alcohol - yes, that's a thing, and it's kinda epic - to various drugs) and the mental states produced by sitting down and training your mind via meditation until you you can reach similar states of consciousness at will. One of the main differences being exactly that: you can control it.
Creating a list of all the different mental states and their minute and significant differences is a task that I do not care to participate in. If you wish to understand the nature of Trance as it is used spiritually and magically, study "Shamanism." If you wish to understand the deeper nature of meditation and the mental states one can achieve through it, study Raja Yoga. Crowley's 8 Lectures on Yoga is a good place to start, then you can watch people like Sadguru on YouTube.

Re: Meditative trance and magickal trance - the differences
Thanks to all of you !
Desecrated I've found it:
''The Magical Trances
Magic is the science and art of causing change to occur in conformity with
will. The will can only become magically effective when the mind is fo-
cused and not interfering with the will. The mind must first discipline itself
to focus it’s entire attention on some meaningless phenomenon. If an at-
tempt is made to focus on some form of desire, the effect is short circuited
by lust of result. Egotistical identification, fear of failure, and the recipro-
cal desire not to achieve desire, arising from our dual nature, destroy the
result.
Therefore, when selecting topics for concentration, choose subjects
of no spiritual, egotistical, intellectual, emotional, or useful significance -
meaningless things.''
So, the trance is magickal when we concentrate on a purpose in order to make the conscious mind so it doesn't interfer with the will. It differs with the meditative trance, in which trance we don't concentrate on a purpose, but on something else.
