How do YOU read Tarot divination?

Post by Occult Forum Archive »

1. Do you divine frequently?

2. Did you just read the little book until such time as you felt you had all the little book's definitions pretty well memorized?

3. Do you understand all the symbolism on your preferred deck for each card?

4. Do you receive "general impressions" or just "understand" your Tarot without reading the little booklet? Do you read what the little booklet has to say just in case for added comprehension?

5. Do you contemplate the Tarot spread long after, awaiting for its meaning to reveal itself even more clearly? Or do you get it in one shot?

These are just general questions related to specific things I've read here and there and would like to see how most people on here do their thing. No judgements and I probably won't have much to say in response. I just would like to collect your answers if you feel like sharing. Thanks you in advance!

1. I probably divine for myself and others about once a week upon average.

2. Not really, I let the cards and my intuition guide me, I might read over the book that comes with it, but I generally disregard it.

3. Yes of course, even when I had the Thoth deck, I didn't need to refer to the book to see what the symbols meant

4. This kinda is the same as question two, I go for a combination of the two.

5. This depends on whether it's a short answer question or something in depth.

Do you divine frequently?
Fairly frequentlyDid you just read the little book until such time as you felt you had all the little book's definitions pretty well memorized?
No, I supplement my impressions with anything from the book that may jump out at me.

Do you understand all the symbolism on your preferred deck for each card?
No, it is a lifetimes workDo you receive "general impressions" or just "understand" your Tarot without reading the little booklet? Do you read what the little booklet has to say just in case for added comprehension?
Impressions and sometimes see things on the cards that arenâ??t there.
The book is the relish on the meat.Do you contemplate the Tarot spread long after, awaiting for its meaning to reveal itself even more clearly? Or do you get it in one shot?
No, too busy.

1. Do you divine frequently?
No because I am not in the habit of using the Tarot for divination but sometimes I do and when I get on that kick then the answer is yes but the divination kick isn't very frequent for me.

2. Did you just read the little book until such time as you felt you had all the little book's definitions pretty well memorized?
I find the little books that come with the decks pretty useless because they are the most basic descriptions that can be given. I learned by meditating on each card or choosing a daily card and living the aspects of that card for the day. I later used the method of drawing cards randomly and creating stories out of them which enhances the ability to actually read them for divinatory reasons.

3. Do you understand all the symbolism on your preferred deck for each card?
Yes and no because I think understanding of the symbolism is relative and personal and has a tendency to change over the years as you live with and use your deck. Also, I don't always agree with others' "understandings" of the symbolism but I don't think they nor I are necessarily in error because the Tarot is very much relative to interpretation.

4. Do you receive "general impressions" or just "understand" your Tarot without reading the little booklet? Do you read what the little booklet has to say just in case for added comprehension?
My answer to question #2 probably indicates my approach here. However, I do find the comprehensive books written about Tarot very useful but they only serve as a guide or introduction most of the time and the rest is up to the individual. Sometimes I will re-read such books later or read a new one after my own workings and new understandings and get a totally new perspective and become inspired all over again but that also depends on the book.

5. Do you contemplate the Tarot spread long after, awaiting for its meaning to reveal itself even more clearly? Or do you get it in one shot?
For me it doesn't work this way. A reading of the Tarot simply points out different routes that can be taken in a situation for example. It is not a matter of waiting for the revelation but the inspiration to go out and make it happen and to interpret events accordingly, does that make sense?:D

Because if that wasn't the case it would say much about determinism and freewill?

I meant "reveal itself more clearly" as in "oh, the knight of wands could have been referring to this circumstance, not specifically the guy who I think has been buggering my wife" as opposed to how I think you're interpreting the question as, "ah yes my future is unveiling just as the cards predicted." (Although, I left it open-ended because to some people that's probably what they do. I've met lots of people who read the booklet and take it on face value, not sure of the symbolism or their impressions.)

First off I want to say very good thread you started :) Thank you very much :)

1. Yes I use my decks frequently :)

2. I read the booklets that come with the modern decks I purchase then do readings once I've learned the meanings for those decks. The traditional decks I don't read the booklets for.

3 Yes I do understand the symbolism for my most used decks :) Which are all modern decks :)

4. It depends both on my mood and the deck I use whether I'll ge general impressions or understand the reading I do without looking at the booklet. I don't use the booklet to get a better understanding or to clarify things.

5. It depends on the reading I've done and which deck I'm using. Sometimes I have to sit and meditate on the reading to make sence of it others I get it right away in one shot. But I tend to do ask for more information and clues to clarify and redo the reading. Some of my decks answer questions with more questions and riddles. They advice subtly. While other decks are more in your face than a baracks full of drill sergants trying to square you away on your first day of basic on Paris Island. They are direct and very blunt.

Again thank you very much for starting this thread :)

2) I read quite a few books on the subject.

3)This was kinda hard since it's the Thoth deck. But I felt compelled to get these particular cards. I just felt an emtional connection to them. I have a good wokring knowledge of the symbols. I also have a good knowledge of the emotion being conveyed in them.

4)I took the time to look at each card on it's own to get a feeling for it. Then after some studying and comparing notes I honed in on the similarities.

5)I do quick reads for me. But for friends I do a read and have them recorded in a book for future reference. More likely than not, the cards tell you something you alrady knew and were ignoring or denying.
