Original post: AveSatani.
Hi everyone, I may be needing you guys help...
You see, today I bought a deck of this tarot cards and the thing is, it is all anime-style type...
However, all the cards have the same pictures as other tarot cards
such as the devil and the hanged man, etc.
I need help as i want to find out whether my cards are fake or not, and no offence to you guys, but can anime-based tarot cards be used for divination and prediction of the furure?
Please help!!!

Lima beans can be used for divination if you know what you're doing. If you work with the cards you have in a serious and respectful matter, it doesnt matter how the images are drawn. what matters is that you attain a serious knowledge of their meanings and practise diligently. Have you got a link to the deck? Is it on tarotpassages.com for example?

Interesting - I like the Moon and Suncards especially.
There is one very good site I know of and th link escapes me. Did you check in the Sticky for Tarot Resources? I'll see if I can dig this link up becasue its a free online course and I think she's very good. Maybe DP has it on hand too, if she's around.

Never seen cards based off of the anime film "X" before.... I guess it does fit nicely though.
And don't fret, as stated before, as long as you treat them as Tarot, they will act as tarot. I once used a deck of Index cards for an emergency reading. It was a bit jumbled but other than that good.
I've created a deck of cards based off of the Dark Gods of WarHammer. Each suit for a God, the Ace being the God itself, and the King being a Chosen. The Major Arcana was drawn to specific events and abilities of the Gods.

Feranaja,
Very true it doesn't matter wat images are drawn on the cards they could be stick figures and polka dots what matters is knowing the cards and the different meanings for them and the different meanings for the combinations of the cards. For example The Tower Card can mean ruin and destruction which may seem negative but you the destoyer only rids what is not needed anymore in your life. However The Tower Card can mean drastic change which change is truly a neutral thing its how you deal with that chnge that makes it positive or negative. It depends on the cards around it.
Tarot.com has some good suff for learning decks as well. I think it's free. I'll check my links for free info for reading tarot.

Hi again,
Well, when I started I used Eden Grays books and also the original works by AE Waite. I did daily practise by pulling one to three cards and simply trying to understand what they meant and how that meaning might apply to my day ahead. I recorded these impressions in my journal and then checked back later to see how they had manifested. I spent a lot of time studying the correspondences - as well as the many symbols that appear over and over in the deck; certain flowers, pillars, animals, mountains etc. as time passed, I acquierd other decks and had brief relationships with them; I actually use the Aquarian for a long time because I love the artwork. I bought books and worked with many different systems before finally settling into study with just my Waite deck and Rachel Pollack's books, which have been the backbone of how I read ever since. I augmented my Tarot study with various practises designed to increase right brain, intuitive abilities and I also undertook the BOTA course in 97 which greatly enhanced my undersatnding of tarot(among other things). ALthough Ive been a professional reader since the late eighties I continue to see myself as a student becasue I believe th tarot is intended for lifelong study and contemplation. So thats probably more than you wanted to know, but just to be clear I think it takes a lot of time and commitment to become proficient and even then, you can and should always grow and expand your understanding.
as for direct advice, I always give the same suggestions and mostly I always get ignored, lol. I believe the most direct way to knowledge is to pick a deck a teacher (in this case, I mean a book or series of books, becasue different books often feature vastly different interpretations) and stick with it. Now I say half jokingly that no one follows this becasue its normal and understandable to want to expriment at the beginning; I know I did and that can be a valid learning curve as well. BUt at least try to ground yourself in one system and then compare other theories, as opposed to bouncing around from one to the next. Remember that tarot at its best engages the readers right and left brains - in simple terms, you need to know the cards and feel the cards. You need to do both, ultimately. many people are highly intuitive but fail to "know" the cards in the sense of intellectual understanding (and this goes further than simply memorizing all the meanings; that much is a given). Through the diligent practise of tarot you can find all kinds of aspects of yourself that demand attention, refinement, examination - the process leads you inward as well as out. Before I descend into mumbo jumbo land I will just again remind you to look at the resources sticky; I personally love Rachel Pollack's works but they're not for beginners. Mary Greer's books are topnotch and Ive used and recommended her classic Tarot for Yourself many times over the years. Did you locate that link for the online course yet?
All I can say at this point for you, is this; practise practise and more practise. Top that off with a reasonable amount of study - and be patient. Make haste slowly. It will come and you should have a lot of fun along the way, even though I realize I've made this sound like one long boring task, havent I, lol.
Hope this helps a little and feel free to ask for clarity if my usual rambling style obscured the actual answers to your question.

I kinda did the reverse I read all the books I get my hands on at the time on tarot from the library, book stores and borrowing books from friends who were tarot readers. Asked those I knew who read tarot cards many questions. There were some way out books but I made a point of reading all the ones I could find. Then I went looking for a deck couldn't find one so I made the first deck I had. Though feranaja's suggestion is the wisest course of action. I wouldn't reccomend the backwards method of learning tarot though we all learn things differently. It is best to have a deck and look at sites, read books, read the pamphlet/book that goes with your deck. If you can have a person teaching you that's even better. Most of the occult stores in my area have classes for tarot that aren't too expensive.
All traditional decks have the same meaning for the cards. The Rider Waite deck is one of many traditional decks out there.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. There is is the Tarot 101 sticky which has plenty of good info in it for bginners.

Wow, when you described that deck I was picturing something much different & far more childish looking. That's quite lovely.
So that you know, this deck is Rider-Waite based, but it is not identical in imagery. You should have gotten a little white book (aka LWB) in the box with the cards, this will tell you the artist or creators vision for the cards, what they intended each image to exude. That is always a good starting point with any deck.
I really like Justice on this deck. & what's funny is that the moon card doesn't do anything for me imagery wise, it doesn't say anything.
An interesting choice in decks, I hope it suits you.

I would work my way through the deck and set aside the cards that really grab your eye. Then, look up their meaning in your little white book. This is less boring than starting at the beginning and just reading text, at least you'll be interested in the pictures
Try a few simple readings, nothing heave. Something like 'What will I think of whatever I eat for dinner tomorrow" or something really innocuous. Then read them to the best of your ability with your own intuition based on the images and whatever you already know of Tarot. Maybe jot it down. Then look up the cards in your book. See where you are on with your interpretation, read what else they think of the cards, write that down.
After dinner the next night, go back and see what relation your actual result was with your reading. Don't be discouraged if they don't match but use it as a learning tool & keep in mind that knowing the most possible outcome can change that outcome.
That's my best advice at this time.

Ok thanks. by the way, you have any idea how I can cleanse my cards? My cards tend to stick to each other.
Oh ya another thing, my friend allows other people to touch his cards and when tarot reading, the cards are not accurate. Is it because of allowing people to touch the deck?

I'm afraid I've never dealth with sticky cards before. Usually I have the opposite problem with new cards, they slip all over the place. I can't offer any advice for sticking.
As far as cleansing there are many methods. You should think of something that is meaningful to you and use that. Some suggestions are to use stones/gems &/or smoke on each card or on the deck as a whole. I'm sure there are some devised rituals out there. Fankly I haven't cleansed a deck since the first few I bought, but that's just me.
And as far as others touching your cards, that's all personal preference. I don't have others touch my deck while I'm reading, however I do let some people handle them a little at other times, to look at the artwork. Many many readers have others touch their decks because they beleive the person must shuffle or cut for their reading. Some don't allow their decks to be touched at all. It's all a matter of what you feel is appropriate.
