How Raven stole the sun
Original post: Khoen
Hi peeps,
The story of "How Raven stole the sun" is an Native American legend. I read a short version of this story and was wondering if any one could help me to get a "long complete" version of it.
I like the story because it shows a different view of the raven and I have only read storys were he is evil.
If you know the story what do you think of it? What is better the raven as good or as evil and why's that?
Koen

I'm moving this to Indigenous Faiths. You will probably have better luck (no offense to everyone here) with folks that follow these traditions in getting an accrurate story. Well, that, and it kind of belongs there.

The Raven and other tricksters arent evil, they are just crafty at teaching their lessons; they self ridicule as an example, and use irony

This is one story that sounded quite good to me. Don't know if it's correct but it was nice to read. The best by far.

---I've heard some veration to all of these...
In the ones I've heard, the one who kept the sun/stars and moon to himself was either a greedy mean, stingy chief, or a wicked sorcerer...
And the Raven was originaly all white, on his stealing of the sun he was burned and smoke blacked, his curse for doing it was that forever after all ravens would be blacked, removing them of their pure white feathers...
General theme and moral to the story are the important things, every story teller gives the tell a slightly differant way after all...
