In the Talking Points Guidelines it says:

Finally, these are not OUR topics...they will belong to the Forum. We will also, from time to time, ask other practicing Magickians to initiate topics of interest and share their wisdom.

When this is said, what does it mean?

OUR? As in YOU the mods, or as in WE the posters of OF?

If it is refering to WE the Posters of OF then who do the TP topics belong to? Eric? Is he writing a book? Will we get credit in the book if we post...or are we signing away our thoughts and opinions? (ya know I did have a member of a different board tell me that OF was writing a book and that those who did not conform to the concepts of the book were banned...but this is likely a topic for a different post).

If it is refering to YOU the mods, then I guess all is well...thanks fer making OUR (the posters) topics Talking Points

Maybe it's just my occult inspired paranoia...but I thought I'd ask just the same.

Yeah, we are writing a book. And in order to get the information we need Eric has placed a spell on these boards that makes it impossible for you to leave unless banned. When the book comes out, you will all be charged exhorborant amounts of money to purchase it, but will buy it anyway because of this spell.

You shouldn't listen to what everyone says about OF in other forums, first off. Rumors abound about most sites, and, just as is the case with OF, most are unfounded. Couple that with the fact that if they do have the balls to ask us themselves, they probably are just saying that because they got banned or got their feel bads hurt for some reason or another. I am sure there are a few people that have thought of writing a book, and they are free to do so, but each one of them has been told that they need to get the posters' permission before using anything they have said.

As far as "our", it is as in the Ceremonial Magic forum. They put that in so that it was understood that you don't have to be a Ceremonial Magician to use or read or contribute to them (even though knowledge of a subject is generally a requirment for posting in a talking point). Though we have specific forums here, Occult Forums, and all aspects of it, are open to any member who wishes to read the info. Hell, even a few guests.

Whatever you post here, though it can be used freely here at anytime through the use of quotes and/or actually using advice or ideas, it still your intellectual property and won't be used for distribution unless someone IS writing a book and asks you your permission. Can't say you'll get paid for it, that would be between you and them, but they can't just copying people's thoughts and ideas and claiming them as their own or making a profit without your approval.

When you think about it, everything we know has been passed down from someone, so whether anyone is writing a book or not, our opinions are picked up mentally or even copied physically for later reference. Everything we say, think or do is connected to something we have heard, seen or read somewhere.

As for writing a book, if someone has that amount of time and the ability to organize themselves THAT well, let me know how you do it, I am so pushed for time right now.

If anyone IS really writing a book, say nice things or we'll come and get you :evil:

Well, The person that told me OF was writing a book came from Astral Pulse. I laughed at him and said there are NO SUCH plans...then I pointed out that AP already wrote a book and that I've had the same things happen to me there that he was claiming about this site. (not about stealing thoughts, about deleting posts that do not 'fit the mould') but I'm not gunna get into that, as the topic was resolved between us. Just thought I'd bring it up because it likely was my cause for alarm.

I was reading one of the topics here that got converted to a Talking points, I was certainly not thinking about what my friend said. but the OUR kinda jumped at me so I thought I'd ask. The text I have in the gray, me bringing up what my friend said, was actually an afterthought that I did not even remember untill I hit preview once. Maybe it was the conversation that subconsciously fed my paranoia...I dunno *shurg*.

As for being brave, sure I am...if you say so. If I see something that might be wrong I'll point it out, and I'll be gladly to do so. As for laughing, that's fine as well, you are after all laughing WITH me...now reread the guidelines and then ask "What if Q is right?".

Q darling, at the end of the day there is not a lot we can do if these things are going on, we can only continue to be good people doing our best wherever we are. If we get banned for something, anything really, we can choose to grow our own groups, join other groups etc.

I am glad you have brought this type of thing up though, especially as someone else was talking about take-overs of occult groups the other day somewhere, was it on OF?

I am going to have a think about this and a prayer/connection or something; but really OF is bigger than this type of thing don't you think? Consider the calibre of the Mods here and think a little more...

I truly believe that the the more honorable members in co-operation with the unseen support our site and keep it 'clean'. Really. No worries.

I'm not really worried about it, but alarm bells did go off when I re-read those guidelines. I'm not saying they are true, just saying they could be.

They will NOT stop me from posting in a Talking Points Topic (what nromally stops me are the other rules about posing in one ). I'm normally not one to gossip, or spread rumors, in fact, normally I just disregard them...much like I did with all that about a book from my friend. He told me that a few weeks ago and like I said I all but forgot about our conversation. Rumors can be a powerful force I guess...but I'm not all that sure that rumor was the only reason I posted this thread.

I can not stess enough that I don't actually think it's happening (but I still say it *might* be)...It's actually my opinion that is was nothing more then bad wording/miscommunication.

Don't think I'll be running off to some other board because of it...I'm not like that. Had I feared something this petty I certainly would have left when we got hacked (as I was still reletively new). So I'll be sticking around, posting like normal. Besides...I'll need something to have in *MY* book, so I hope that all the others here keep posting as well

These topics belong to ALL the members of the Forum past, present, and future. When I said they were not "our" topics I meant that we were writing them for others that would read the topics.

I made the comment because I wanted serious knowledge passed on to others and future generations of Magickians who would read the material.

If ever I were to write a book it would contain MY thoughts and not plagarize the words of others on this board..or I would ask their permission before including their words in my book.

Eric is NOT stealing our knowledge for a book.
