Hello!
I read some articles on LaVenyan satanism and I wonder if there're any difference between atheism and LaVenyan satanism. It seems to me that there's no difference.
What is the difference between atheism and LaVenyan satanism?

What is the difference between atheism and LaVenyan satanism?
Original post: die before death
Once upon a time in the early days of the CoS, the LaVeyian idea of Satanism was actually theistic, although thats usually heavily disputed by current LaVeyians.
But in any case, the current LaVeyian standpoint is different than just plain old atheism is because its decidedly more against the grain, and thus individuality affirming.
Atheism is just a rejection of Theism, but Satanism is the celebration of the Individual.
Also, elements of the psychodramatic effect of ritual and 'outsider culture' isnt truely present in Atheism.
But then the usual question is always, "Then why does Satan get all wrapped up in this?"
And the usual answer is that he is a symbol of Rebellion and Opposition againt the herd mentality and their god. Using their own symbols to have a laugh at them, and piss them off at the same time.
Satan and most forms of the Prince of Darkness embody a sense of Doubt that is nessesary for the Individual to prosper unfettered by illusions of consensus reality.
For me, what Ive noticed among the difference between Atheists and Satanists is that many Atheists still hold on to old sets of morale that the Satanist has identified and erradicated.
For instance the Satanist makes an effort to delve into what are usually sins and the taboo, whilst the Atheist doesnt really do much of that on a conscious level.
So then the Satanist ends up with a pretty good idea about their own sexuality and identidy, yadda yadda yadaa... and again the Atheist does not gain these insights as quickly, or at all.
Atheists seem to say to the masses, accept me for who I am, and Satanists say, fuck off and leave me to my sinister fun.
These differences matter.
