Some therapists combine physical massage with reiki healing, another one may be into doing dream therapy at the same time as giving cranial sacral therapy.

Meditators create their own meditation techniques by combining new ideas with established practices.

What are the pros and cons of being experimental?

Mix It All In

Pros:

Occultism, spirituality etc are universal expression in humanity. What changes is the form of expression, and perhaps the goal, which to some may be a better material existence, to others escaping material existence, and to others annihilating it.

Although there is great variety in human expression of metaphysical principles, there are also enough compatible and comparable elements that synthesis of method and view might result in innovation where the outcome expresses benefits that are more than the sum of parts.

I think such innovative synthesis is, furthermore, a natural result of human creativity. Many cultures borrowed from others and did so successfully, similar to how the mixing of gene pools can result in healthier organisms in a given species.

Cons:

In science experimentation is rarely arbitrary. Even so, a chemist mixing substances without having enough of an understanding of each of them can end up with an explosion, and a one way ticket to the graveyard. And this might happen no matter how much the chemist thinks they have all the bases covered.

Or the result might be a cancellation of the properties of consituent substances. The problem in occultism/metaphysics/spirituality arises when systems are arbitrarily mixed together without actual esoteric insight being the foundation of the mixing.

Instead, if the mixing is exclusively based on intellectual standards and analysis the result might work, but might also work only so much that others are mislead to waste years on the "new" system and only going so far with it.

In science, for example, what often foils experimentation is the lust and expectation for specific results, which colors perception. A lot of scientists have glossed over inconsistencies because they wanted their experiments to work a certain way.

The misunderstood results then can become the basis of a distorted theory that motivates other experiments making distortions even more complicated.

The problem there is not when results are disastrous or completely absent, but when things seem to work, but only enough to keep our interest, but not enough for real progress.

To sum up:

Pros: Creative innovation based on insight, experience and understanding of the systems involved is very likely to result in something greater than the sum of parts.

Cons: However, this is not guaranteed, and it's easy to be mislead into spending more energy supporting a synthesis weaker than its parts, until it becomes a new doctrine and apriori given for others.

medelino, I will ask you this only once.

Everything you post has a link to a specific site. Please place the site in the "suggested sites" somewhere here and only discuss the details. Most of it is all arbitrary, anyway, and open to perception. Why don't you get some others?
