I have a friend who is interested in the Black Zodiac or Dark Zodiac, whatever you want to call it. I have posted this in hopes of getting information for him on the subject. So if there is anyone who might know anything, please send it my way and I will relay the information to him. He would like to know about which part of the Black Zodiac he is and also if this actually exists.

What a coinsidence but today I was trying to gather information on the black zodiac as well!
How ever don't stress to hard most of the info I've found has lead me to sites related to the movie "13 Ghosts". None of which have any information that isn't just hype for the movie. My personal gues is that the black zodiac is most likely a hollywood creation. Designed to fit the movie's genre of horror flick. Its possible that the true black zodiac is really just a blanket term for moon signs. I know that the zodiac is usually shown to have the 12 sun signs. Yet everybody has a moon sign as well. I think the signs are the same just at different periodical localities. Hence a my sun sign is Gemini but my moon sign is something else ( I can't remember exactly what though).

Hmm.. I have never actually heard of the Dark Zodiac, and this seems very interesting. I'd really like to know if it exists and what it's about too.

However, if this dark zodiac stuff doesn't actually exist.. I'd be very tempted to just "create" one, just for fun.

I hope someone finds more information on this.

I heard about it in passing once before the movie came out. All I know is there are twelve and apparently its dark :). But other than that I got nothin. There must be something to it in the obscure annals of occultism somewhere. Perhaps it was a unique model created by someone and published limitedly? That happens more than you know.

Well, it seems easy to make a search in Vivísimo (for instance) and get a bunch (117!) of results. I haven't checked the sites: explore them yourselves:

The Black Zodiac was first in a book called "13 ghosts", which was then made into a movie. (the movie and the zodiac are both awesome)

There's 13 signs :- The First Born Son, The Torso, The Bound Woman, The Withered Lover, The Torn Prince, The Angry Princess, The Pilgrimess, The Great Child and The Dire Mother, (the same sign, they're sort of a "team"), The Hammer, The Jackal, The Juggernaut, and The lost soul.

could you expand on its magickal signifigance and what the corresponding zodiac signs are?

Can I assume the great child and dire mother represent the dark side of Gemini?

I dont know, i just saw the movie "Thirteen ghosts" and it had the Dark Zodiac in it. I think it was completely made up, but i guess it could of developed from what Acid09 was saying about the moon signs.

In the film each sign is a ghost, which is powering up a machine to open The Ocularis (the eye of hell).

http://13ghosts.warnerbros.com/production.html?5# Thats about the ghosts in the film, and seeing as it doesnt say anything about the star signs, i think its probably made up.

Or read the book 13 ghosts, perhaps there is somthing in the book that even if fiction he can adapt and use. It do not matter that much where a system come from as long as it is useful.

VERY interesting. So what if it's made up? C'mon people. . . . . . . share the idea. Give it to a Chaote to work with. . . . . you'll be sure to get interesting results lol.

BTW, interesting quiz.

Mouthshut.com's official review of The Black Zodiac by Charles Wright...
Charles Wright's Black Zodiac received the 1997 National Book Critics Circle Award amid stiff competition and went on to win the Pulitzer Prize. When Wright is on, his work is gratifying in many ways. Always restless, he moves back and forth between high culture and country music, between the landscape that occasions the poem and...

hmmm, oddly enough, I've actually seen the card for "The jackal" Although I'm not sure how legitimate it was, The black zodiac is either really secret, or fictional, as I'm sure someone here would've heard about it or seen more than just one card

Actually the Dark zodiac is a creation of Dark Castle entertainment (The people who brought you such wonderful horror movies as Thirteen Ghosts and House of Wax). They are a complete fabrication, but are based loosely on the teachings and beliefs of Alister Crowley, a noted dark magician /lunatic who studies black magic quite some time ago.

Crowley was quite an interesting man, from what I understand (you can purchase memorize on his life and beliefs at a local borders or Barns and nobles). His belief was that magic was a dark art, given to those worthy of it by the devil himself and that to attain absolute spiritual enlightenment one would have to go through blood sacrifices as well as several other dealings in order to attain it. He had a cult of followers, several of which were never heard from once they entered Crowleyâ??s home. Most beliefs in dark witchcraft are based off of the works of the man (as well as several good horror movies, Mask of the red Death which was based on the outbreak of the plague I believe also had deep rooted feelers into the perceived live of Mr. Crowley.)

As for the movie itself, the movie was created back in the seventies by the original creator of Dark Castle. I havenâ??t heard of the book, Iâ??m going to guess it runs along the same lines of the movie or even expands on the thoughts that are presented. Very cool and Iâ??d love to read more about it.

In response to lokistears, you may actually want to read some of those biographies on Crowley. If so, you'd know he never practiced sacrifice of any kind. He killed a cat once when he was a kid and said he wouldn't ever do it again.

Also, in a lot of his writings he frequently uses terms that sound like he's talking about child sacrifice when in reality their really metaphors.

Frater P.C.D: Thanks, I donâ??t know too much on him, mostly that I was taught that he dealt with the darker side of witchcraft and there was a lot of speculation on him in a darker nature in the eighties. I thought most of the darker works of gothic fiction were derived from his studies and so forth, or am I getting my people confused?

Pawky: As for him being satanic, no, I donâ??t think and never have believed that he was; I also never said he was. I said that to my knowledge he practiced dark arts, thatâ??s different.

No I do believe you're talking about the catholic church :P

Your info is probably further off than what the church would say about crowley...

Perhaps what people are looking for are the Lunar Mansions method of astrology.........rather than something made up by a Hollywood business :)
