Which theory may explain PSI?

Post by forests »

To those who are open to PSI existing. Which theory do you believe may explain PSI (paranormal phenomena) such as telepathy, clairvoyance, psychokinesis, near-death experiences or apparitions etc?

John Beloff a well known parapsychologist concluded that PSI occurs becuase of dualism ie the mind and brain are separate. Amit Goswami however in his book “The Self-Aware Universe”, lists some studies on quantum physics that may lead to an explanation of psi that agrees with the theory of a nonphysical and conceptual world. He explains that in quantum physics, objects are not seen as definite things. Instead, objects are possibilities, viewed as something called “possibility waves”. Of course his interpretation due to his research in quantum physics has lead him to formulate idealistic monism, that only consciousness exists in the universe and everything is part of it, he argues against dualism and materialism.

Others however have disagreed and put forward physical and materialistic theories to try and explain PSI.

Michael Persinger claims that much of paranormal phenomena can be explained by low frequency (ELF) electromagnetic waves.

Brian Josephson has claimed that the explanation of PSI may be found in quantum physics. Gerald Feinberg's concept of a tachyon, a theoretical particle that travels faster than the speed of light has been advocated by some parapsychologists who claim that it could explain some PSI phenomena.

Charles Tart however believes PSI is completey non-physical and does not operate to material laws.

There are many theories which try and explain PSI. Which one do you advocate and why? If any?

There are too many theories on how magic works (and psi is just another name for one aspect of magic) and no real way of proving them for anyone to really answer these questions.

Maybe one day when science moves on and explores these phenomenon further, we'll find out, but for now, occultists just have to satisfy themselves with what they learn through their own personal experience and ascribe to the theory that works for them.

'The Path of Illumination'

is like a block of wood
that gives itself to the chisel-
cut by cut it is honed to perfection"

I view telepathy, clairsentiences and other so called 'extra sensory' abilites as natural phenomena, part of ourselves, across the physical, mental and spiritual levels of awareness and being.

I believe they are innate but that we have subjugated much of our senses and our natures through our ever increasing urbanisation and industrialisation. Some people are more attuned to them than others but we all hold the potential within.

For further information, consult your pineal gland.[wise words,I find]

I also have experienced surges/spikes in these awarenesses in certain environments where there are high and conversely also, very low levels of elctromagnetism and electricity etc.

I think,ultimately, my preferred approach is a mixed model,lol.

dude, humans discovers existence of energies and matters that he don't know how the hell he can even detect them.
and calls them dark matter and dark energy. and considers a mass for them!. but these are just names.you can just consider any other dimensional stuff. that are unknown because they are undetectable not that they are weak. they have logic in them too!. for example you know that we are effected by gravity, these matters are around us. moving with us! to they are connected with gravity too! which means they share the same gravity and you can consider a mass for them! it is much simpler than what your trying to imagine .
your doooommd, aha aha ahahahahahaha

Unless you are a physicist it is typically better to avoid using or listening to people who like to borrow words such as "quantum". Too many people jump down this pseudoscience BS.

On a side note, if you actually learn anything about quantum mechanics experimentation has shown the universe at a quantum level often works counter-intuitive to general logic and known standard model physics. Knowing this you can easily pick up the BS of people who talk about them.

In my opinion we don't currently have the technology to study phenomenon such as "psi/magic/etc". Right now the only type of experimentation you can do is comparative results with a control, but even then you are only measuring a result - not actually studying the mechanism that causes it. When neurology and psychology/psychiatry get more advanced it will be able to better understand how the brain works, by doing that I believe it will learn more details about the "mind/soul" and verify that consciousness/sub-consciousness is not entirely bound to the current frame of time/space. When that happens I don't think SM, QM, or even ToE will be how its answered.

Omnipresence of all life but with bodies acting as antenna's[for our consciousness] amongst omnipresense.
